Costa Caribe Holiday Packages
Discover the local customs of colonial port cities, relax on sun-drenched beaches and wander through tropical terrain on Colombia’s northern coast.
The Costa Caribe is a region of dense tropical forests, beaches and magnificent cities rich in colonial and indigenous history. Find the region’s historic treasures and traditions in Cartagena and Santa Marta. Venture to the Tayrona National Park in Magdalena for a scenic labyrinth of trails that lead to sandy hamlets.
Encounter tiger cats and bats among the diverse range of wildlife in the national park. Sunbathe on the mesmerizing Concha Bay and Cristal Beach. Go scuba diving with one of the tour operators in nearby Taganga to spot colourful fish in the clear waters of the national park.
A little to the west is Santa Marta, which was the first Colombian city to be settled by Spanish colonists in the 16th century. Get a glimpse of the local culture in the markets by day and enjoy the street performers in the Parque de los Novios at night.
Travel west along the coast to pass through the busy Barranquilla, which is the birthplace of singer Shakira. Continue along the coast to reach the colonial gem of Cartagena. Its old town contains charming historic treasures, including the Cartagena Cathedral and Inquisition Palace. Climb to the top of the Cerro de la Popa for the remarkable Convento de la Popa and excellent views of the city. Relax on the white sand of Cartagena’s Playa Blanca or take a boat to the paradise of Isla Grande, near Baru Island.
While in Costa Caribe, dine on fresh fish caught by local fishermen and try a special sancocho oxtail soup with coconut rice, a regional delicacy.
The region covers almost all of the country’s northern coast, between the borders with Panama and Venezuela. Expect a hot and humid climate for much of the year. The dry season lasts from December to March while the area experiences torrential rain at times from April through November.
Fly to Simón Bolívar International Airport in Santa Marta or the Rafael Núñez International Airport in Cartagena. Get around the region by minibus, taxi or rental car.
With stunning national parks, an array of exotic flora and fauna and quaint colonial cities, the Costa Caribe is among Colombia’s most picturesque spots.
