Schloss Roxburghe Golf Resort, Part of Hyatt

Schloss Roxburghe Golf Resort, Part of Hyatt

8/10 Good
"We booked a 2-bedroom cottage due to the fact there were no twin rooms available in the main hotel. Our booking included breakfast and we assumed this would be in the main hotel; however this was not the case and instead it was based around a credit or voucher to be used in the on-site market shop where the choice was limited. Not clear at all on the Expedia site. The hotel staff were helpful and did allow us to take breakfast in the main hotel without an additional charge in view of the obvious misunderstanding. Please be aware of this fact if you are booking the cottages as breakfast in the hotel was £32.50 per person! Also, again we assumed that as the cottages were part of the Roxburghe estate we would be able to use the spa facilities (one of the main reasons we booked there in the first place). Alas, yet another misunderstanding as free access is not included for guests staying in the cottages and the cost for a 4 hour visit was £65 per person which is steep given what is on offer (a pool, 2 saunas, a whirlpool and relaxation area). Once again the hotel responded well by offering us 1 complimentary visit but beyond this we would have to pay. Overall the hotel was excellent and the service good. However, staying in the cottages does not entitle guests to much if any of the facilities of the hotel (unless you pay) and the lack of twin rooms in the hotel itself is puzzling given the size of the hotel."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Chesters?
The best area to stay in Chesters is the City Centre, particularly around the historic Royal Mile or the New Town for a more refined experience. The City Centre is the main hub for visitors, offering easy access to Chesters' most famous landmarks. The Royal Mile, which stretches from Chesters Castle down to Holyrood Palace, is a bustling street lined with historic buildings, shops, and eateries. It's very walkable, with many of the city's key attractions just a short stroll away.Couples often find the New Town, particularly around George Street and Princes Street, an excellent choice. This area offers elegant Georgian architecture, high-end shopping, and a wide selection of fine dining restaurants. It provides a more relaxed and quiet atmosphere compared to the Royal Mile, while still being centrally located and well-connected. The views from Princes Street Gardens towards Chesters Castle are particularly lovely. For those wanting to be right in the thick of the action and close to historical sites, staying directly on or just off the Royal Mile is ideal.
When is the best time to go to Chesters?
The best time to go to Chesters is typically between late spring and early autumn, from May to September, when the weather is generally mildest and the days are longer.During this period, you'll find the most pleasant conditions for exploring the Chesters Roman Fort and Museum, as well as enjoying the surrounding countryside. The warmer temperatures make outdoor activities more comfortable, and the longer daylight hours mean you can make the most of your sightseeing. For those who enjoy walking, the riverbanks along the River North Tyne are particularly inviting.Couples often find July and August ideal for a romantic getaway. The warmer weather allows for leisurely strolls through the fort's ruins and along Hadrian's Wall, and many local pubs and restaurants have outdoor seating available. It's superb for enjoying the historic setting without the chill of the cooler months. For solo travellers who appreciate a quieter experience, May, June, or September can be excellent choices. The crowds are generally thinner than in the peak summer months, yet the weather remains agreeable. This allows for a more contemplative visit to the fort and a chance to enjoy the local area at a relaxed pace.
