The seaside town of Burnham-on-Sea lies along a pretty stretch of Somerset coast, just a few miles south of Weston-super-Mare. It has been a popular holiday spot for more than a century, when the Victorians began escaping the stuffy cities to enjoy the fresh air of the seaside. When you stay in a Burnham-on-Sea bed and breakfast, you'll find all the vintage trappings of a British seaside resort still intact, like donkey rides on the beach, quaint tea shops and ice cream parlours, not to mention the pier, with all its attractions. There's more than just beachy fun, though. Throw in a theatre showing year-round musicals and plays, several summer food and drink festivals and some fine places to eat, and you've got the makings of a great weekend getaway destination.
You might be tempted to stay in a hotel, but the bed and breakfasts in Burnham-on-Sea have always been the staple accommodation of choice for travellers. Nothing beats the homely atmosphere, friendly welcome and competitive prices of a B&B, plus many are within walking distance of the beach and the sea. Sold on a B&B? The best place to start looking for your perfect accommodation is Expedia, which lists every property in Burnham-on-Sea, along with detailed descriptions and photos. All you need to do is refine your search using your dates and budget, scan through the properties and book in just a few clicks. Arranging your seaside break just got a whole lot easier. It matters little whether you're coming with just your partner or you're bundling the whole family into the car for a weekend away, you'll always find a B&B that fits the bill. Some are traditional Victorian terraced houses, which offer just a handful of guestrooms. Others are swish detached houses, with seaside-inspired decor and private gardens. You can even find some housed above cosy pubs. Whichever you pick, you'll always have a comfortable stay when you book through Expedia.
Guestrooms at the bed and breakfasts in Burnham-on-Sea come in all shapes and sizes, but they typically have all the modern amenities you might expect from a hotel, like a kettle for making tea and coffee, a flat-screen TV on the wall and a comfortable double bed, wrapped in freshly pressed sheets. Nearly every B&B will have free WiFi, which you can use to help plan your break or catch up on a few emails. Some may have ensuite bathrooms, stocked with towels and toiletries, others will have large, shared facilities. What makes the difference with a B&B are the personal touches that you just don't find in a hotel – perhaps a vase of flowers waiting for you when you arrive or the time the owners take to help you plan your trip. Every morning, you can fuel up for a day at the beach with a proper English breakfast – with veggie options available, too, of course. If you're looking for more of a city break, there are plenty of things to do in Bristol, instead?
Most families and couples who come to stay in Burnham-on-Sea bed and breakfasts during the summer months make a dash for the long stretch of golden-sand beach and spend their days sunbathing or cooling off in the sea. If you're bringing the kids, they'll love the traditional donkey rides across the beach. If you fancy a day off the sand, there are plenty of other things to do and see, like Apex Leisure and Wildlife Park, or the retro amusement arcades. If you've brought your clubs, you can head up to The Burnham and Berrow Golf Club to practise your swing along the rolling fairways. Alternatively, bring your rod and reel and cast a line to hook a big one. Don't confine yourself to just the town, though. If you've brought your car, you could visit Brean Down Fort, a Napoleonic fortress built on a site whose history dates back to the Bronze Age, or Brean Down Bird Garden, where you can admire the collection of tropical bird species. Don't miss a day at Brean Leisure Park, which has more than 40 attractions and rides for all ages.
