I so wanted to like La Culla and it does have some positive attributes. The room we had was spacious and clean, the setting had amazing views (if you have a room facing the Sea), Sister Monica is a pleasure to deal with, and there is a midnight curfew which meant no late night return of revellers. But (and we have a few of these) ... the front of the convent is metres/feet from the train line and this was loud, even with the windows shut, from about 6.30 until 23.00; breakfast was overly simple and not of good quality (lukewarm instant coffee in Italy does not bode well); other nuns were not friendly; we ended up changing our own bedding after 3 days rather than having it changed for us as advertised; the Internet was weak at best, with us and other guests out on staircases of an evening trying to get a signal; sound insulation was poor - we could hear the people above thundering around and plugging things in. Be aware that there is no air-conditioning either, which could make a difference certain months of the year. Credit card payment was not accepted even though we had booked via Expedia. That said, this is a working convent and as such it was a welcome refuge from the hurley burley of Sorrento. Use the train out of Sant'Agnello as this is closer, but beware the ticket office is closed on Sundays. We were happy enough here for a few days, but if we came back this would not be our first choice unfortunately.
We had a wonderful time, visiting Pompei, climbing Vesuvius, visiting Capri, and walking the streets of Sorrento. Jury was helpful with the online reservations and Silvana was most kind to help us with our activity planning.
Fantastic location - 5 minute stroll to and from train and bus station/ both in same place.
Easy reach to and from airport. Train to Pompeii and Vesuvius, bus to Positano/Amalfi coast - very easy. Two minutes from cinema, 5 minute stroll to Tasso Square. We visited theatre just off Tasso Square and were invited to drinks beforehand included, the show was very good. Many shops and restaurants from walking out the door. Three marinas all within walking distance and enjoyable walks.
Very clean hotel. Poolside immaculate. 3 star and very good value. Didn't like everything on offer at dinner but always sufficient choice - starter of pasta or rissotto looked nice and would be enough without main course, I chose fruit juice as can't manage starter and main course. Macaroni was great. Restaurant staff showed good humour and had a few laughs there. I overheard someone saying they usually go on cruises and so much more choice of food-of course there is-that is what you pay for on a cruise.
All the staff are friendly and approachable. Really enjoyed our stay.
We stayed at Sorrento flats for 5 nights. The flats are very central to shops, bars and restaurants and the bus and railway stations, to where you can easily get transport to the main attractions. The flats are located up 3 fights of stairs, but the staff do help you with taking up suitcases, so this wasn't a great problem for us.
The staff are really helpful and friendly. Luigi helped us to sort out our transfer to the airport when we were struggling to get through to the company on the telephone, and nothing is too much trouble for them.
We would definitely recommend Sorrento flats and would stay there again.
