- Puerto Rico Family holidays
Give your children an introduction to the natural world in its full glory with cheap family holidays in Puerto Rico. On the main island there's the El Yunque National Forest, which is home to 50 species of bird, some of which are not found anywhere else on the planet. Throughout the archipelago as a whole there are 16 endemic bird species, along with around 40 reptiles and amphibians and 250 species of plant. These are scattered across the island group, which shares the name of Puerto Rico with its largest member.
Science and nature
As well as the natural landscape of the islands, you might want to take any young scientists in your family along to the Arecibo Observatory, which again is located on the main island of Puerto Rico. It's close to the north coast, although this is not the area where most family holidays in Puerto Rico take place. If you do decide to make the journey to the observatory, check beforehand whether it will be open to the public - certain experiments might mean the road up to it is closed, while maintenance work on the dish can mean visitors are not allowed to it either.
Around the islands
Family holidays to Puerto Rico might not be on the main island, as the group also includes the small islands of Vieques, Mona and Culebra. The vast majority of holiday accommodation is found on the main island though, but you might still want to take a trip to one of its smaller neighbours. Culebra and Vieques are the closest off the east coast, while Mona is located a little further away off the west of Puerto Rico Island, and is not always inhabited. There are several even smaller land masses in the archipelago too, but the only one of these that is inhabited is La Isleta de San Juan - and that is connected by bridges to Puerto Rico Island.
Puerto Rico for the family
Cheap family holidays in Puerto Rico are a great way to enjoy this part of the world, with the Caribbean Sea to the south and the Atlantic Ocean to the north, amazing wildlife and geography on the land, and sheltered bathing waters off the coast. Take your family on a trip they'll never forget at the very edge of the Caribbean.
