The Museum of Liverpool is the latest addition to the National Museums of Liverpool and chronicles the story of Liverpool and its people. The museum explores themes of the Great Port, Global City, People’s Republic and Wondrous Place, exhibiting everything from costume and decorative art to botanical collections, entomological collections, steam locomotives, archaeological materials and other artefacts. The museum also has a children’s gallery, an interactive archaeology resource centre and a theatre for audio-visual performances.

World Museum

The World Museum is a vast museum with an extensive collection of ethnological, archaeological, natural and physical artefacts. The museum has collections that cover human history, including Egyptology, biology, zoology, geology and space, complete with a planetarium. Some of the artefacts you can see include an Anglo-Saxon Kingston brooch, artefacts from the Canterbury-St Martin’s hoard, live insect colonies, preserved specimens of extinct species, fossils and rocks. You could also see shows about space science and exploration in the planetarium.

The International Slavery Museum is located within the Merseyside Maritime Museum and traces the history of the transatlantic slave trade. It has 3 galleries that focus on the people of West Africa and their experiences with slavery and the fight for freedom. The museum also houses a gallery devoted to life and culture in West Africa prior to the slave trade, which features displays and exhibitions about past and current slavery and human rights issues to raise awareness.

Merseyside Maritime Museum
