We stayed at Riad Layla (suite Alia) for three nights. The place is beautiful and within Fes Medina. Breakfast was served on the terrace which we quite enjoyed. Our room was spacious, well maintained, clean and beautifully decorated. Even the bathroom was very aesthetically pleasing. The suite is on the top floor so might not be convenient for some people but apart from that, everything was amazing. The staff were also incredibly nice! On our last day we had to depart at 6AM and one of the staff members very kindly and thoughtfully packed us breakfast! We ordered food through a delivery app and missed the driver’s call, he was kind enough to collect the food and bring it upstairs for us. All in all it was a very comfortable stay. Would recommend.

Riad Alya was incredible! The room was beautiful, spacious and very Moroccan. I felt like I was in a museum and couldn’t stop staring at the amazing ceiling. Then you walk out in the center and it’s hard to take it all in. Riad Alya is in a great location, easy to find and every attraction is in walking distance. The moment you walk in Ottoman treated me like family and when I left, I felt like family. Ottoman is the best!

Great place to stay in an old Riad but with all modern confort.

Please stay away from this property. Horrible staff. He refused to pick us from taxi stand. Whole property was empty. At night the care taker left the property and AC staff working. We called the main number and no body picked up the phone. Tried to find someone and there was no one else. Front door was locked and we could not go out also. Bathroom was smelling and fixture were all loose. We left the property first thing in the morning and booked another hotel. Lost the money but we have to run for safety. Expedia should not offer this property.

Great place to stay in an old Riad but with all modern confort.

There was no pool outside despite the listing. The tiny pool inside the riad was typical and authentic, meant only for charm, decoration and to keep the dwelling cool in the heat of summer. Crucially, the listing must explain the connection between the Riad Almaz and the (nearby) hotel, Palais de Fes, and the hotel’s address, where the included breakfast is served daily. The listing must advise that transfer from the airport should be to the hotel, not the riad (which only very very local people know about and even took some time to find by the Moroccan man with a cart for our luggage who agreed to help when the taxi driver dropped us in Fes el Bali). Once at the hotel, the staff will escort clients to Riad Almaz and provide keys and information. The hotel staff were excellent at all times. The riad itself was damp (with black mould on the ceiling in the room allocated/booked) but we were given another room on the second day, following our complaint (which was better, still damp but without obvious mould). Unfortunately, the property smelled badly of the old drains but that was understandable given its age and authenticity. A Morrocan family, with young children, live in the riad. We were the only guests.

Such a nice hotel, and the staff are super friendly.

The property is beautiful. It's a sprawling resort with areas outdoors in the woods near a cascading springs that I enjoyed sitting at. I liked the lobby, the swimming pools and the exercise room. Checking in was easy. You're sat in the very nice lobby and you're greeted with a nice apple lemon ginger juice while the check in is proceeding. The staff is very nice, attentive and professional. The room is very nice, nicely decorated and the linen is crispy clean white cotton. The appetizers in the lobby were very good. But the drinks are crazy expensive. There were a few glitches: my minibar was empty. This is an expensive hotel. When I brought this issue to the management, they offered to fill it. But it did seem to me as if they were cutting corners. Also, my room was dark. The lighting was dim and not enough to read. It was a room to just retire to and go to bed and watch TV. It's unpleasant to not have enough light in a room, especially if you want to read. In the daytime, the room tends to be dark in the part away from the window. When I brought this matter to the management, they offered to upgrade me to a suite. However, the sitting room in the suite was even darker while the bedroom was brighter. I thus declined the upgrade. The lobby is very nice but it too needs a bit more lighting in some spots. I had to look for a corner with enough light to read the menu and see my food. The drinks are crazy expensive. But overall a very nice stay.
