Our entire floor did not have running water during our first night’s stay. At check-in, we were informed that our room would have no running water from 11:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. We asked to be moved to a room with water, but were told rooms were already pre-assigned and that we would need to pay for an upgrade. Running water is a basic hotel amenity. While maintenance issues can happen, guests should be notified before arrival, not upon check-in. Had we known in advance, we could have made alternative arrangements or reconsidered our accommodations. We were told that, if needed, the hotel could provide a couple of bottles of water so we could brush our teeth. Bottled water is not an adequate substitute for functioning bathroom facilities. After spending the day in Las Vegas, dealing with the heat and cigarette smoke throughout the casino and restaurant areas, we reasonably expected to be able to return to our room, shower, and freshen up. It is also unreasonable to require guests to pay an additional fee simply to have access to a basic amenity that should have been available in the room we booked. I understand that maintenance may be necessary, but the lack of advance notice and the way this situation was handled significantly affected our first night.
