"We rather liked Kemps Yard, which must be fairly new to the listing. Very convenient for Thirsk town, quietly hidden away from the main road, and clean and cosy. Parking in the yard is almost impossible, although the neighbour is an expert at manoeuvring his pickup down the lane! The visitor's permit lets you park on the road and saves you from endangering your vehicle, but you may get your step count up while you unload. We were ok with the cobbled lane, but it wouldn't be so good for those...

"Elm tree cottage was the best stay I’ve had in Yorkshire , I visit often and by far the best place I’ve stayed the hosts were lovely and kind and was great to chat too! The location was perfect in a cute little village on a farm close to Thirsk and an easy drive to York. Providing the essentials for cooking and a cozy little cottage too! Would definitely recommend and look forward to returning in the future! "

"If you want a nice central stay, then this is one to consider. We had a couple of issues, which were resolved on the day. However, getting two bottles of sparkling water into the room seemed like a challenge, and being charged £16 for it felt like a lot, especially since they supplied only one bottle and charged for two, and the hotel already provides small bottles of still water. I was not expecting this to be charged, as I have experienced in other 5-star hotels."

"It is a huge 'Victorian pile' - refurbished lately - it is central, about 5 mins from Betty's tea shop. Breakfast is ok. Other menu a bit ordinary. Staff are good. Didn't try the spa - but it is there if you want it. So, overall OK. Would stay there again."
