The Clermont London, Victoria

"The location of the hotel being adjacent to Victoria Station and transit hub was immensely convenient. The hotel itself is beautifully decorated and very grand. Staff upon check-in were helpful, not so much when asking about microwaves in our room (as the are none due to "food contamination concerns "). Room was okay, bed was the best part as it was VERY comfortable. Strange shower situation as it was pretty elevated from the actual floor and the height make it difficult for us to get in and out. Plus, the faucet part was very temperamental, it kept leaking (and was dripping noisily) unless you turned the handle closer to the rainshower head setting. Food in The Soak restaurant was good, just had very slow service each time. Also, we weren't made aware/reminded of the cost for the 'bottomless breakfast buffet' on our first morning, so we were hit with a nearly £90 breakfast bill (almost $100). Overall, it was a nice stay, as the location trumped the inconveniences. We didn't "dislike" it, but might look into other nearby options if we were to return to London someday ."

Mitre House Hotel

"We have stayed several times at the Mitre. Very old building - rooms are very small. But there is an elevator! Which is the slowest one on the planet. There is hot tea in reception and the breakfast hasn't changed in several years. Note to American travelers - washcloths are not provided in most European countries. Bring your own. The Mitre is about 10 minute walk to Paddington train station. The owners are very nice and helpful. I highly recommend this hotel."
