Active and prominent in the community, this medieval church welcomes worshippers and visitors with cakes, coffees and its renowned choral services.

With its spire rising high above the Nottingham skyline, St. Peter’s Church is one of the main religious landmarks in the city. Dating back to the late 12th century, the arresting structure is remarkably well-preserved. Enter the church and enjoy the utter serenity within its centuries-old interior.

Gaze up at the tall spire rising from the church tower. Adorning the center of the tower is an electronic clock that was installed in 1965. Attend a Sunday morning service and mingle with local parishioners enjoying the tea and coffee that follow it. If your kids are too young to stay attentive during the service, drop them off for the duration in the children’s corner.

The impressive nave is divided by two rows of arches and pillars. Appreciate the excellent acoustics in the church, as you listen to the voices of the revered choir. Victorian stained-glass windows allow colorful light to fill the church.

Attend one of the Coffee Break concerts on Saturday mornings, which are part of a tradition dating from 1988. Head next door for the St. Peter’s Coffee Room, where you can purchase cakes, sandwiches and hot beverages. Browse the range of items for sale in the St. Peter’s Fair Trade shop and leaf through the tomes in the Christian Book Shop.

Consider the intriguing history of the church, whose original incarnation burned down in a fire. Today’s structure was built around 1180.

Find St. Peter’s Church just south of Old Market Square, in the center of Nottingham. Arrive at a nearby bus station or take the tram to the Old Market Square stop, a short walk north of the church.

While you’re here, explore the surroundings for other attractions including the National Justice Museum, the Nottingham Council House and the Nottingham Playhouse.
