Pocket Guide: St. Kitts and Nevis St. Kitts Hotels

The larger of the two islands that make up St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Kitts boasts everything from UNESCO-listed sites to pristine tropical beaches. Great shopping, top hotels, a lush, mountainous interior, turquoise waters and a championship golf course attract visitors from far and wide and ensure there are plenty of activities to keep you busy as you enjoy life in this Caribbean paradise.

Areas & Neighbourhoods: Where to Stay in St. Kitts

Basseterre – The island’s picturesque capital is a good place to start your cultural exploration of St. Kitts. Home to a choice of museums, a variety of historic churches and a selection of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants, and hotels the city is the centre of commercial and cultural life on the island.

Mount Liamuiga – Mount Liamuiga dominates the centre of St. Kitts. Though now dormant, its eruptions have shaped the landscape over the years and there are still a number of dramatic black cliffs formed by cooling lava at the foot of the volcano. The peak offers some great hiking routes and countless breathtaking views of the surrounding area.

Sandy Point Town – Thought to mark the spot where the British first landed in 1623, Sandy Point Town is one of the island’s main tourism hubs – and a great place to book a hotel – thanks to its proximity to Brimstone Hill Fortress, an immaculate golf course and a choice of great beaches.

Major’s Bay – One of the least developed beaches on St. Kitts, Major’s Bay is made up of a simple stretch of golden sand and warm, gently lapping waters. With the beach unlikely to stay hotel-free for long, now’s the perfect time to enjoy your very own slice of paradise.

Things to See with a Hotel in St Kitts

The most famous sight on St Kitts is the UNESCO-listed Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park. Built at the end of the 17th century, the fort now houses a fascinating museum and offers great views of the surrounding area. To learn even more about the island’s past, visit Bloody Point. Just a mile west of Basseterre, Bloody Point saw a grisly massacre in 1626 when the British pre-empted a revolt from native Carib Indians. As a result, not a huge amount of Carib Indian culture survives on St. Kitts, however you can learn more about these native peoples by visiting the ancient petroglyphs made before the British arrived in the 17th century. Located on the approach to the Wingfield Manor Estate, the fascinating drawings will give you a glimpse into St. Kitts’ past.

Things to Do When You Book a St. Kitts Hotel

Thanks to the island’s wide choice of excellent beaches, you can easily spend your entire Caribbean break hopping from bay to bay, relaxing on the sun drenched sand and swimming in the clear blue sea. Alternatively, if you want to get active during your break, head up to Mount Liamuiga for some challenging hiking, have a go at snorkelling, scuba diving or fishing or enjoy a round or two of golf in a truly idyllic setting. Other activities available on St. Kitts include jet skiing, kiteboarding, surfing, zip-lining and even swimming with dolphins.
