Lovely, compact room -- refrigerator, electric plates, microwave, sink, coffee, pots, silverware, EVERYTHING!
Great lighting, comfy bed, very helpful staff. Perfect location.
SOMEONE really thought this one through!
Very convenient location, very walkable. They had self parking, but it fills up quickly. However, staff was very knowledgeable to recommend a lot costing only 2-3 dollars more per day that was only a few doors sown on the same block. I stayed in a "loft" room, 4 of us total and it was very spacious with a kitchenette, good size bathroom and closet. Separate entrance and a shared balcony.
Likeahotel has apartments located for rent in the heart of Montreal's Plateau Mont-Royal district (or arrondissement). Each apartment has a theme, for instance "Heroes" or "Guitar". The five of us stayed in 3A. Having three bedrooms was the best way to go and it worked out well. The bedrooms were not large but certainly adequate. The shared living room and open dinette area layout was good for "together time" but there was plenty of space for teenagers to sulk and fiddle with digital devices on their own.
A family member cooked a large meal for 10 people and the kitchen was basic but essentially hassle-free. The common areas have plenty of light and air if you want it and the street noise was not too bad. Admittedly our nights were Sunday & Monday so noise could be a factor during Fridays and Saturdays. Family members also stayed in 2A which is a quieter as that room is set back from the main street (Mont-Royal) further than 3A. Both rooms are on the second floor side-by-side. The walls seemed pretty solid and the building is in good shape with a buzzer system for security.
Pricing is roughly $400-500 for a single apartment that easily sleeps 4 people. Up to 6 people could sleep comfortably in either apartment. The staff is encountered solely through a remote check-in screen on the 2nd floor. This works pretty well but don't expect attentive, typical hotel service that is not the deal. All in all a good, inexpensive option!
I arrived to the hotel by taxi from the airport; and it was fairly straightforward to get to. My recommendation is that you call before you arrive so that a staff member is there upon your arrival. Staff was friendly. Checking in and out was straightforward and quick.
The apartment itself felt like a home away from home. It was fully furnished (two Full/Queen sized beds; microwave; coffeemaker; stove; dishwasher; washer/dryer), had extra toweling, toiletries, and even had kitchen utensils, dishwashing soap, and laundry detergent. I visited in early March - after a snow storm - and additional benefits of the apartment were that I could adjust the heat and the sidewalk was plowed each of the 4 days I was there.
The neighborhood had a bohemian look and feel. Lots of artwork scattered throughout (murals, lighting fixtures, a few sculptures, etc). The people in the neighborhood seemed to be in their 20s, 30s and 40s, a few families. All that to say I felt really comfortable staying in the neighborhood. There were several boutiques, restaurants, and convenience stores within walking distance. The Metro (subway) was about 4-5 blocks away from the apartment and easy to walk to. There were also a few taxi stands within walking distance of the apartment each day of my stay.
As a disclaimer I'm a 30 year old woman who visited by myself, and not fluent in French and felt pretty comfortable in the neighborhood.
Plateau Mont-Royal, northeast of the downtown Montreal area, is bordered by St-Joseph Boulevard, Sherbrooke Street, Papineau Avenue, and St-Urbain Street. Considered one of the most bohemian neighborhoods in Montreal with a lively art scene, the Quartier Mode where local designers have set up shop, and green spaces for picnics. Enjoy international cuisine from the area's numerous restaurants.
