Wilding Hotel

3.5 star property
9.6 out of 10, Exceptional, (14)
"My son and I were on a cycling trip from Liverpool to Durham. Of all the hotels we stayed in on the way, this was head and shoulders above the rest. They were welcoming, dealt with our bikes quickly and safely. The room was amazing with the attention to detail was remarkable, with heating rails, effective hot water mixers, iron. It was a real restful place for a traveller. The restaurant in the evening was to an exceptionally high standard, you could see that the owners were hands on, and keen...

Appleby Castle

3.5 star property
8.2 out of 10, Very good, (124)
"It's an old castle built in the 811 or there abouts, they maintain a formal dining room one for dinner and another for breakfast, there's also a small TV room, there's a games room on the first floor with a pool table. The bedroom was warm and big and nicely furnished, nice size bathroom and clean. I enjoyed my stay. There's a kitchen and you can use the menu to place your order. "

Lots of lovely walks. The two pubs in the village are great and The Queens Head offers a tasting menu alongside light bites. We ate at the other pub in the village twice - traiditional pub grub. We did lots of lovely walks to Lowther Castle and up into the Fells just out of the village. The house could do with...
