The location is alright, a shuttle bus bound for happo one leaves right next door. Most restaurants and convenience stores are within a 1km walking distance. The room was clean and comfy, although a bit old. Shared toilets bathrooms. Hosts were really kind and helpful. Be prepared to reserve time to find restaurants in the evening especially in Jan/Feb. I was in a hurry to get to Happo-ike pond by the cable car. At the end, the own drove me from Happy Talk to the Happo Gondola station so I could start hiking ASAP. That's very kind of him to do that 👍👏😊. His wife offered me an apple as a snack the following day. Yes, Happy Talk is a bit outdated but I was treated kindly. Made an effort to chat and help out during the stay. The room size was also great for Japan, featuring two single beds and a couch (I was travelling solo). Unfortunately, the thing that will stop me from ever going back was the smell. There was a broken urinal in the men's bathroom and it made the entire place smell horrendously. I went to the supermarket to buy a big can of deodorant to use every time I walked through the place. Sadly no amount would fix the bathroom though. The place is very old and consequently it just doesn't feel clean at all. Hakuba itself is very spread out. The bus stops are all over the place, the timing is highly irregular and missing the one or two close stops means a 10-15 minute walk to the other ones. Make sure you get your hands on both of the bus schedules.
