The best areas to stay in Merrivale are the Historic Quarter for its central location and classic appeal, or the Riverside District for a more contemporary and scenic experience. The Historic Quarter is Merrivale's oldest part, characterised by its cobbled streets and Tudor-style buildings. It's home to the Merrivale Cathedral and the bustling Market Square, where you'll find independent shops and traditional pubs. This area is very walkable, with many of the main attractions within easy reach. Couples often find this area ideal for a romantic trip, enjoying the historic surroundings and evening strolls. For those who prefer a more modern setting with excellent views, the Riverside District is an excellent choice. This area stretches along the River Merri, offering pathways for walking and cycling, and is known for its contemporary architecture and high-end restaurants with river views. The Merrivale Arts Centre and the modern Merrivale Gallery are also located here.

For most travellers, the best time to visit Merrivale is during the late spring (May to early June) or early autumn (September to early October).During these periods, the weather is typically pleasant, with mild temperatures and less rainfall than in the peak summer months. This makes it ideal for exploring Merrivale's countryside, visiting historic sites, and enjoying outdoor activities without the larger crowds often seen in July and August. You'll find it easier to book popular hotels and secure reservations at top restaurants.Families travelling with school-aged children might find the summer holidays (July and August) more convenient. While Merrivale is busier during these months, the longer daylight hours and generally warmer weather are superb for enjoying attractions like Merrivale Castle and the Merrivale Lakes. Many family-friendly events and festivals are also scheduled for the summer.Couples looking for a romantic escape might prefer the quieter charm of early autumn.
