Top Lydford Gorge Hotel Reviews

Lovely cottage situated in 40 acres

Lovely cottage situated in 40 acres

10/10 Excellent
"Lovely property at the end of a narrow lane right on the edge of Dartmoor. Easy access to lovely walks. Property’s space and rooms is excellent. Provided with a private garden for the cottage. Owners were very friendly and helpful. Clay pigeon shooting on offer (extra cost) was certainly a unique feature. Re walking - on edge of Wilsworthy and Merivale ranges so some areas are occasionally out of bounds - but still plenty of good walking to be had."

The Dartmoor Inn

The Dartmoor Inn

10/10 Excellent
"Our new favourite place, absolutely faultless. Food is exceptional, a significant step up from your normal pub grub. Our little pooch was also made to feel incredibly welcome and even served with her own little platter of treats. A beautifully clean and well presented restaurant experience that welcomes anyone whether it be special celebrations or a party of hikers that have just conquered Dartmoor. 100% we will be back and bringing friends and family."

Large country house with hot tub sleeping up to 12 in six bedrooms, perfect for special occasions

10/10 Excellent
"We stayed at Whitelady House as an extended family (three generations) over the Christmas period in 2025. This was our fourth time at Whitelady House, and we've been visiting on and off since 2012. Firstly, this is a fabulous location and house for exploring all that Dartmoor has to offer, and although many places were closed over Christmas, there was still plenty to do in the area. With Lydford Gorge literally outside the back door, the dogs had plenty of space to explore besides the extensive garden area. The house itself is old, and with that comes a few quirks, including two sets of stairs, which presented a unique challenge for us with a 16-month-old toddler and necessitated the use of many stair gates. But having two lounge areas, along with the kitchen, meant there was always plenty of space for people to find peace. Overall, the house was warm and inviting, especially after a day out in the cold. The only downside is the very slow internet connectivity. If you need to maintain access to the broader world, this can be a limitation. But if you're planning to get away from it all, then a slow-to-almost nonexistent internet connection is the right choice. Overall, although this is expensive, especially for Christmas, we thought it was well worth it to get the whole family together. Ruth (the host) is excellent and couldn't have been more helpful."

"The location and the property itself were perfect. The house was so well equipped, the bed really comfortable and the view beautiful! We felt welcome from the moment we stepped through the door, and especially appreciated the welcome basket - thank you! We enjoyed time relaxing in the house, and the walks from the door and nearby. A brilliant few days away; we really hope to visit again."
