The property has a wow factor. It is beautifully decorated and has kept the Victorian era throughout. The rooms are large and very comfortable. The breakfast is plentiful and cooked fresh to order. The staff are friendly. Unfortunately the bar and restaurant were closed but it did not spoil our stay.

Excellent location
The room was cold but bearable as it was a relatively warm night other guests did require help with this Excellent location for the centre of Matlock bath, breakfast was very good

Lovely stay
We had a lovely stay, the gotel was very quirky and had some lovely touches. The breakfasts were amazing and so much choice, and the staff were all lovely.

Can’t wait to return!
Couldn’t fault it at all! Food , hospitality and comfort all fantastic. I ate in one night and the food was freshly prepared, hot,really tasty and great value. Breakfast was freshly cooked with good choice. I was travelling alone and always felt safe in the area. Can’t wait to return! Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Enjoyable stay.
Stayed for 2 nights. Small hotel with good friendly service. Staff happy to help with queries. Both breakfast and dinner were excellent. I've found other hotels have removed or reduced daily housekeeping, but that's not the case here, high standards of cleanliness are maintained in the hotel and room. The hotel has a cosy feel with lots of character throughout the hotel, adding to the the overall experience.

The hotel was atmospheric in keeping with a Victorian feel. Room, en suite, food, service was excellent. The promenade at Matlock Bath was Blackpool like and there was a restricted choice for dining.

We are happy you enjoyed your stay with us.For other people who are reading this review our small village does also have a variety of great dining options (as well as our restaurant of course:) ; including two pubs which offer wonderful food, a fabulous Indian restaurant and Seafood restaurant as well as a Chinese restaurant. For a small village in the middle of a beautiful river gorge we do have a good variety for all price levels in addtion to the fish and chip shops on the main street We are always happy to show people where the best places to eat are if anyone needs help during their stay. .

A great place to stay
Always an excellent stay. Such care is taken over vegan breakfasts. Rooms "themed" Victorian, Owners are helpful, friendly & accommodating. Rooms are pleasant and overlook all the "goings-on" in the "seaside" town of Matlock Bath. - Car parking now included - brilliant

Hello Thank you so much for your feedback we are happy to see you enjoyed your stay with us again. Parking has always been included and we always provided options for everyone if there was no space in our carpark with parking passes etc. However we now have one car park space per room in our own carpark.

Fabulous stay in lovely Derbyshire countryside.
Fabulous old building, sympathetically renovated and a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Our hosts were so friendly and helpful, and immediately made us feel at home when we arrived. Very tasty food. Great bonus of free, adjacent parking. We’ll be back!

Would definitely stop again.
Cosy room, sensitively decorated to fit the period of the hotel. Always something to make you stop and look twice. Very close to all amenities and a 25 minute walk to Matlock. Big plus with having a parking space. Nothing was too much trouble.

Excellent place, all original bespoke furnishings to match the amazing Georgian building. Friendly hosts who can’t do enough, with great local knowledge 5 star ⭐️ would definitely recommend to anyone

Perfect location for the illuminations and general
Friendly, helpful welcome, homely and comfortable feel to the whole place which retains many original features and sympathetic restoration. The guest lounge felt like being at home and the bar was really reasonable. Breakfast made to your order and all fresh and delicious. Room was very clean and comfortable with great facilities The owners and small team of staff were all really friendly and helpful. Great location for the illuminations (just the other side of the river) and no better place to watch the end of evening fireworks - sofa in the guest lounge with a drink and the fireworks directly opposite. Short walk to the heights of Abraham . Matlock Bath is a lovely place to visit and Hodgkinson’s is the place to stay

Delightful Stay!
We had never been to Matlock Bath before, so took the opportunity for a two night stay on the way back from Cornwall to break the journey. Hodgkinson's Hotel was like staying with very attentive friends, couldn't have been better. The room was very large and had great views of the river, the food and wine were all to a high standard. Lovely walks locally, the Heights of Abraham and caves were very interesting. Well worth the call into the Victorian Baths, now full of Koi Carp and good fun to feed them. Our visit was rounded off nicely by calling in the Denby Factory shop and some purchases.

We were extremely taken by surprise by your review score and are sorry it seems you did not have the same experience our other guests do when they stay with us. Unfortunately you never talked to us to let us know you were unhappy with anything during your stay so that we could have helped you with whatever problem you had and when we asked you you actually gave us the impression you both were happy with everything. We do appreciate you dined twice with us in the restaurant as well and seemed to enjoy both dinners when asked. We also would like to thank you again for the tip you left at the end of your stay for our staff. It would be really helpful for us if you have a moment to give us a call to give us feedback on what issues you had during your stay with us. Thank you!

Up to scratch.. as usual
I have stayed at Hodgkinsons on several occasions. The rooms are delightfully Victorian-like; the delicious, 3-course breakfasts keep you going for the day and Chris & Zoe couldn’t be more welcoming. My hotel of choice if in the area.

A home from home hotel the owners and staff very friendly and nothing is to much trouble. The hotel is quirky , which is what we like with old fashioned furniture and very comfortable beds.

A very nice and homely feeling place
The hotel is very nice and what you would expect for a place that is 300 years old. Chris and Zoe were very pleasant and went out of their way to be helpful. They advised us on places to go, going as far as marking up a map for us. I think that Covid wasn’t making life easy for them do I think it was a very pleasant stay. Thank you guys
