It is a little worn in places, but everything worked. The room was a little small, like a caravan bedroom, but fine for us. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, the food was nice. There was just continental breakfast to choose from in the morning, but there was plenty and it was nice food. We ate in the restaurant twice, the food was lovely, enough choices and definately value for money compared to others in the local area. Especially if you choose from the set menu. The local setting was beautiful. We didn't walk into bath but used the local bus, leaving our car in the car park. Ensure you read the terms and conditions re paying the deposit for your stay on arrival and also the £10 per stay car parking fee. For our 3 night stay, this was fine. We found that the sat nav kept trying to take us over the toll bridge even when chose, avoid tolls, so beware to check the direction maps is taking you, if you don't want to pay the charge. You can park on the main road for free if prefer." My travel plans got changed, but the staff were incredibly accommodating and immediately put me at ease - couldn't do enough for me which is always appreciated. The rooms themselves are very cozy and comfortable - I particularly liked the abundance of bird paintings and prints as decor, they were genuinely nice surprise. The shower was a particular highlight, two different showerheads, great water pressure and some lovely complimentary shower gel and conditioner. As I was staying over a weekend, the hotel staff took the courtesy of warning about potential noise from the nearby high street, however this was a non-issue during my stay - once the window was shut, I put my head down to sleep with no issues whatsoever. I would quite gladly stay at the Red Lion again next time I'm in Basingstoke, the place has a real charm and character to it and the service was genuinely excellent."
