"Splendid location with stunning views"
We were at the Pestana Viking for 5 nights in November. The location of the hotel, on a rocky promontory facing the sea, with lovely landscaped garden and amazing views, complemented by two beaches of breath-taking beauty at each side (4-5min walk) could not be beaten. We had a room on the fifth floor, with balcony, which allowed views of both gardens and sea, and the lights of Armacao de Pera at the farther end, at night: magical and quite romantic, the balcony is big enough to sit on the two chairs, with drinks on the table and stretch your legs. Not in November, though, it gets chilly at night (warm enough to sunbathe during the day).
Good lobby and breakfast buffet with ample choice, dreadful coffee from an automated machine. A pool table, indoor pool and jacuzzi both nice, the outdoor pool is beautiful and it's salted water. The gym is pathetic, 5 pieces of equipment in a large, barren room. We didn't visit the sauna.
The staff at the reception is ok, I've got the feeling their salary is the bare minimum, as they go about their job without much enthusiasm. The bar opposite the hotel is full of locals, and had the best coffee, savoury home made food too, totally unexpensive and warm athmosphere.
