Lyon is a charming city, sliced up by its two rivers: the Rhone and Saône. Nearby are two of France's most prestigious wine regions, Beaujolais, in the north, and Côtes du Rhône in the south. With an accommodation in Lyon you are close to all this and more!
Lyon is the second largest city in France, and the inner city's main district is divided into 9 different zones, making it very easy to find what you are looking for. The city's huge popularity means that the competition between Lyon hotels is high, so it’s best to book in advance. Still, there’s quite a variety of hotels to choose from when planning your stay in Lyon.
Getting to a new city is always exciting. Obviously you can explore the city yourself, but if you want to be absolutely sure that you don’t miss anything (and hear some fascinating stories too) it's definitely worth taking a guided tour. These are led by history experts and given in English, usually running during the busy period between March and October. These are usually very popular, so it’s worth booking these in advance too. There are also museums and monuments galore. A tip for those who want to visit as many of the museums as is physically possible during their visit to Lyon: get a Lyon City Card available at the tourist office. With this card you can visit several different places, either free or at a reduced price.
Lyon is a big city and there is a lot to do. It was actually here in Lyon that the two brothers Lumière invented the movie in 1895. A weekend stay in a Lyon hotel is beautiful in both summer and winter; and there is always a lot to do and see. If you choose to travel here in winter, you can enjoy the city's most important event of the year: the "Festival of Lights". This consists of four days around December 8, when the whole city is lit up in amazing light plays. Well-known light artists create installations around the city, ranging from the grand sound and light show of Place des Terreaux to small art installations in alleys or back yards. Also, don’t miss the Opéra Nouvel, located at Place de la Comédie; the house is named after the architect Jean Nouvel.
Whilst you’re in France be sure to pay a visit to France’s majestic capital with a hotel in Paris.
