Appropriately classified as a five star hotel. That said, the warm graciousness and professional efficiency exhibited by all staff members goes beyond classification. A memorable experience in hospitality
This hotel is right in the centre of the city, five minutes from the nearest metro stop and 10 minutes walk from some of the major galleries and from the old town. The hotel was good - although with only one lift you sometimes found yourself waiting if you were on one of the higher floors, as we were, and didn't fancy the walk. The breakfast was good and our bedroom comfortable, but our toilet facilities were separate from the bathroom and set in a stupidly small unit which you could barely turn around in. Our only other small complaint was that on two occasions we returned to our room mid-afternoon to find that they had not yet been cleaned; we did receive apologies however, but it was inconvenient.
Close to Perrache station (it's free with Eurostar ticket to come round on any SNCF train from Part-Dieu).
In fairly quiet street - certainly quiet at night.
Small breakfast room but good value continental breakfast.
The bedroom we had was long and narrow, so that the door to the bathroom did not open or close past the corner of the bed. This was not a problem for us as a couple, but might not suit everyone. There was no shower curtain/screen, so that the water ran onto the floor from the ledge beside the bath. Again the problem not so much for us as for the staff coming to service the room, as the bathmat and towels were always sopping wet where we had tried to mop up - a lip to the edge of the ledge might solve this. But the bed was very comfortable, and the room felt spacious. It has A/C which was good, if a little rattly at times, but we were glad of it because the weather was warm.

Ideally located in the heart of Lyon between the Rhône and the Saône, Hotel des Savoies is close to Perrache railway station …More
If I am ever lucky enough to visit Lyon again, the Hotel des Artistes is where I will stay! I was in the city visiting my son who is spending a semester in Lyon, and had a single room.
The room, though tiny by American standards, was comfortable and clean. The room was warm, there was a free safe to use in the armoire, and a small refrigerator. The water pressure in the shower (no bathtub in my room) was great and the water hot (had to give it a minute or two to heat up).
The front desk staff were friendly and helpful and very kind in overlooking my lack of French language skills. The area the hotel is in is perfect. Very close to the river Saone, and in a great area of shopping, restaurants, etc. I felt very safe, even walking there alone at night. There is a lovely square just outside the hotel and I sat out there one evening with a book while waiting for my son to arrive to pick me up for an evening out. It was charming and full of kids and parents socializing and it was nice to see this slice of French life.
The metro stop was nearby, making it very easy to get around.
I booked this hotel after reading many great reviews and am so glad I did.
Great hotel!! Excellent customer service and great location. The only hotel that provides free water bottles. Also coffee and tea. Good wifi connections. They also serves free wine and cheese before dinner time. Spacious rooms and clean. Overall, the best hotel I had in France.
Arrived very late after delay to our flight and we probably got the last room available. That was clean and comfortable but very narrow and dark. I was able to change it for a better room the next morning and the staff made the changeover very easy.
The new room was still quite dark and with an uninspiring view of the back of the hotel but it was larger and comfortable.
Shops, restaurants, and historic buildings vie for your attention in this section of the city set between the Saône and Rhône rivers. Sample the acclaimed Lyonnaise cuisine or wander through the rue Merciére. Discover small squares and their fountains or churches. During winter, visitors can enjoy an ice skating rink and a Ferris wheel in the Place Bellecour.
