"A quirky, very old building. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very nice and well-cooked, although it would have been nice to have some cereal and/or fruit juice. We were in room 4 and it was very hot at night. I wouldn't want to stay there in the height of summer. The free car park was great but it was difficult to find when we arrived. Some prior information would have been helpful, "

"The superior double room was clean, the bathroom was ok but the bath is small. The building is tired and in need of renovation. We used the spa and had a massage which was excellent. Breakfast was good."

"A lovely hotel and very accommodating. They were happy to store my bike for me overnight and looked after my bag before and after check in. A great selection on the tea tray and a lovely touch with the radio in the room playing classical music when I arrived. It was a relaxing stay"

"The hotel lovely & is in a lovely area with nice grounds & staff were very helpful & friendly. But… Being a cancer patient I get very hot & cold so always book a room with air conditioning ( we even have it home !) The air conditioning in the room was being refurbished & I was not told this until I couldn’t find the remote control. We had a fan & had to leave the window open so not a good sleep due to noise outside & being hot. So we went to the spa, pool was to cold for me so Hot tub it was.. no that wasn’t even bath temperature. The sauna / steam rooms were tiny 4 people max & they were full. So we left. Dinner, 4 restaurants I think & Only offered a table at one of the restaurants ( Thai ) which was very nice. Continental Breakfast was ok & wasn’t busy & fancied cooked food, but waited 45 minutes for eggs on toast ! Coffee ran out & no staff to be seen. So we left.. My wife liked the place so maybe it’s just me being ill with lack of patience & wanting everything to be perfect !!!"

"Fantastic hotel with wonderful gardens. Great location for visiting the local attractions. Staff were welcoming, friendly and polite. Food in both Monty's Bar and the Terrace Restaurant was outstanding. Highly recommended - looking forward to visiting again."

"Currently the hotel is under refurbishment. A lot of amenities wasnt available. Including a hot breakfast on Sunday morning, which was on Saturday. Not a lot of food available on either days. Didn't have the same feel as other macdonald hotels. Rooms were far from reception, which was tricky when it was raining. Rooms were OK. "

"Lovely hotel , restaurant service was very slow , we waited nearly 30 minutes for our drinks . It also annoys me how they now try and automatically add service charge to the room charge , I politely challenged this and was told that this has been introduced as the staff all earn a minimum wage .Note to hotel owners, pay your staff a decent wage !"

"Truly tremendous venue by the Beaulieu River, surrounded by many interesting historic places to visit and the wonders of the New Forest. Excellent accommodation, lovely meals, good bar and plenty of caring for our dog too."
