Excellent hotel in central London

Posted 24-May-2017
Cons: Providing upgrades and some complimentary extras - such as a free breakfast for long stays - shows that the management cares about return guests
This is a quiet hotel in a secluded courtyard in central London in St James's - just five minutes to Bond St, Green Park underground, Piccadilly, Fortnum & Mason, St James's Palace and a short walk to Buckingham Palace. We had a "classic" room - nicely appointed, very comfortable for 2, marble bathroom,. They email you before to inquire the type of bedding and pillows you prefer so your bed is made up with the type of comforter and type of pillows you like! I was a repeat guest, it would have been nice to receive an upgrade but that was not the case - I had written requesting either an upgraded room or breakfast - I did get a complimentary hotel car to Paddington to catch the Heathrow Express. All in all, a great hotel, reasonably priced for 5 stars, in central London.

Beautiful hotel

Wonderful hotel although let down as a VIP expedia member didn't receive any upgrades or complimentary items . Would prefer hotel not to advertise it as a VIP expedia hotel as this is obviously misleading.

Pros: Restaurant (The Game Bird) is fantastic. Walking distance to over half of the "must see" attractions.
Cons: Reserve some bar space for hotel guests.
Location: Buckingham Palace, Green Park, St James Park, Tower Bridge, Big Pen, Parliament ....
Great staff always taking care of you. Nice to have such helpful people when one is travelling out of their country. loved it!!

Perfect Location but do not stay in room 100

Posted 03-May-2017
Pros: The staff
We could hardly sleep as soon as our neighbor above us came alive! As soon he started moving the whole room shaked and his footsteps were the main noise all over our room. The wooden floors allowed that. But in the middle of night and in the mornings that is not very desirable...

Overrated

Posted 07-Mar-2017
Cons: The staff's attitude.
The Stafford had a solid review online so I was expecting a solid experience. But it was disappointing. The facility was as described and as shown in pictures. However, there was a construction going on at the lobby and the courtyard so I couldn't enjoy the full hotel experience and the charm. But the biggest disappointment was the staff. They weren't as friendly and I expected them to be. Maybe 30% of the staff were very good but the bartender at the American Bar and the front desk staff really did the bare minimum by doing what you asked them to do. No smiles, no going out of your way, or asking anything else that they could help me with and etc. I would not return to this hotel again.

If you're going to London yearly to see theatre, symphony, food, and leisurely walking, you should stay at The Stafford. You can't beat the location. Green Park Underground an the Oyster Card are as easy as aNYTHING. Taxis are also easy and convenient. The Staff is wonderful and pleasant. Amenities are great. Breakfast and the American Bar in the evening are at your fingertips. I was surprised at the Discretionary Fee at the end. I would have liked it to be explained "up front". I did pay it however because they were deserving. Only complaint: The eggs in England are abominable!!.The Stafford is the place to stay.
