We are sorry if you found the lodge in the condition you say. It is a great shame you did not call us on your arrival to allow us to put things right rather that going straight to giving us a 3-star review. As you will appreciate this will severely dent out normal 5-star rating that has taken us 12 years to maintain. Having spoken to our cleaners of 10 years they were most surprised to hear of the dust and mouse droppings, the veranda cobwebs yes, they appear 5 minutes after you have finished cleaning. It is also clear that allowing your three dogs to stay was a big mistake as this added two hours to the cleaning bill removing all the white dog hairs from the carpets and furniture.

Your comments regarding the lighting are valid, we very recently upgraded all the upstairs lighting and are about to do the same downstairs. Very best regards. Andrew & Corinne

Thank you for honest response and we agree with your comments. During the design of the building, we considered skylights but were advised against them due to the structural design of the Cathedral vaulted ceiling. The electrical capacity of the upstairs lighting circuit limited us to 40 x halogen lights which we agree is inadequate. We have since replaced all of these with the now more readily available LED lighting, however, we do intend to have the upstairs lighting rewired to have additional separately switched LED flood lighting installed that should resolve the problem. Last year's loss of income due to the Covid-19 restrictions has caused us to delay this improvement until this winter when the cabin is quiet. Regards. Andrew & Corinne

Unfortunately, with the cabin being locked down for 12 months and with us not being allowed to travel to the cabin the building maintenance has suffered. The Covid-19 restrictions also meant we had to remove all the ornaments and loose decorations from within the cabin making it look slightly austere. We have very recently been able to repaint the exterior of the building and intend to continue with the refurbishment of the interior wooden floors but as we are now approaching the busy summer period this cannot be done without inconveniencing our guests or cancelling someone’s much needed holiday. However, come the Autumn we hope to continue on the interior and restore its warm character. Regards. Andrew & Corinne

Thank you for choosing to stay at Alpine Lodge. The question of Wi-Fi or no Wi-Fi is a difficult one, we have been letting the lodge now for 10 years and one very frequent comment is "How wonderful it was not having any Wi-Fi, the kids were off their tablets and phones and actually talked to us and played pool and other games together, marvellous!" Then there’s the business need side, sorry but they on holiday! If someone is desperate there is a strong 4G signal just outside the front door. However, we will have a think on it? Regarding direct access to the lake, we are located one back from the lake with a good baloney view across the main lake which is for sole use by the water-skiers and therefore there would be of no benefit being on the lake front other than being a constant concert ensuring the little ones have not fallen in the water. We are pleased you had such a lovely time. Sorry about the cobwebs but this time of the year the lodge needs dusting every other day! With regard to the lack of freezer space, we use to have one under-counter larder fridge and one larder freezer but all our previous guests suggested that there was no need for so much freezer space during a one week stay and a second fridge would be far more use, therefore, this spring we replaced the freezer with a second fridge. We are sorry to hear you were unhappy with the equipment in the cabin, your review is the first in eight years to be below a 5-Star rating. Clearly, we rely on the outgoing customer to report to us any defective items so that we can correct the problem, however, none were! Therefore, neither the lamp bulbs nor the fan fuse were replaced. The four faulty bedroom TVs were due to power being turned off to the splitter/amplifier mounted behind the lounge TV and was easily resolved. The exterior of the cabin is swept and mopped on each changeover but the close proximity of such a large number of trees makes it an endless battle to keep tidy. If these issues had been raised with us on your arrival they would have been resolved immediately and hopefully would have resulted in a less severe reduction in our otherwise blemish free ratings?
