The Belmore B&B

"Good location "
B&B situated on a road where it has free street parking, or using a public pay & display car park. Our room was nice but disappointed there was no wardrobe only hangers on the wall which we used for coats. The TV was in an awkward position to watch. The tea bags & milk were not replenished and we didn't have enough toilet paper. The cooked breakfast was nice.

"Lovely Country House Hotel "
We enjoyed 8 nights at this beautiful location, admittedly enhanced by lovely weather. The staff were friendly and helpful, our room was clean, comfortable and classy. Nice little fruit platter with home made treats as a welcome. The drawing room and dining rooms are lovely places to spend some time and the outside terraces and grounds were equally lovely. Our only disappointment was the food in the restaurant did not quite live up to expectations and the breakfast lay out was a bit frugal considering the prices. Otherwise very happy.

"Good hotel on the seafront"
Standard hotel that offers clean accommodation in a prime location. Though initial arrival welcome was well lacking I think that it is the restaurant that let's down the whole experience and from a guest saying a great experience to saying instead average stay. I have stayed at the Trouville before and truthfully you do miss.the previous restaurant manager as she was friendly, welcoming and the restaurant ran like a well oiled machine

"The views alone are worth the money!"
We booked one of the top floor rooms along with a sea facing balcony and the view alone was worth the money! The balcony had a couple of chairs and a small table and you could sit for hours watching the sea and the beach. The seafront was a 5 minute walk away, (quite a steep hill), with some great places to eat and the town was 5 minutes walk away as well. The room itself was comfortable & clean with a comfortable bed, lovely shower and to be able to wake up in the morning to the sound of waves was great! Breakfast was lovely and contrary to some other reviews on here, the staff were all excellent & very friendly. The building is old, so unsurprisingly there is some flaky paint and rough walls. If you want boring modern, go to a premier inn: this is a gorgeous old building with all that goes with it. Ignore some of the negative reviews on here: if you are expecting dull faceless modern hotel rooms, this isn't the place for you, but for some character, this was great.

"Pleasant Hotel, few minutes walk to beach."
Pleasant Hotel, could do with some updating, our room looked nothing like web site pictures but it was clean and comfortable. Breakfast choice is very limited if you don't like cooked, but my husband assured me the cooked was very nice! Parking is on a first come first served basis, there were 2 mini buses taking 5 spaces during our stay but we managed to park alongside building next door. Could be a problem in the height of the season. Staff very friendly and helpful, would stay here again if visiting Shanklin!

"Good location"
a nice hotel in a great location 3 minutes from the cliff. I noted before I booked that a few previous guests had complained about the room being very cold at night. As most had stayed in winter months and I was going in late April I ignored this! As it turned out we had a very cold snap, and the previous reviews were correct. Instead of just submitting a bad review I took the time to report it to the owners and they could not have been more helpful. When I returned to my room they had put in a freestanding electric heater to assist the wall mounted one. That was all it needed and the room was nice and warm for the remained of the stay. The hotel is a very old building and I guess it does get cold in the winter months, but just tell the owners. The breakfast was wonderful, and far exceeded expectations for a seaside hotel. Overall a nice stay with really nice and genuine owners.

Pocket Guides: Independent Hotels in Isle of Wight

The Isle of Wight is a truly unique holiday destination. Cast a short way away from the mainland, the island offers an opportunity for visitors to take a break from everyday life and indulge in the natural beauty of this stunning setting. The Isle of Wight is more than the sum of its parts, and has a strong sense of identity that lures visitors back time and again. The best way to tap into the Isle of Wight ambience is to book into one of its many independent hotels.

    Embrace the Environment

The natural environment is one of the Isle of Wight's biggest attractions. While chain hotels typically choose or build their properties with a one-size-fits-all approach, independent hotels have a little more freedom. This means that independent hotels are often more suited to their surroundings.

Never has this been more important that when you're on the south side of the Isle of Wight, looking over the glassy English Channel. Chale Bay Farm epitomises the charm of an independent hotel, where some 26 acres give guests the chance to wander around water gardens, relax in an idyllic courtyard and sample some superior guest accommodation.

    Personalised Treatments

Many visitors to the island come in search of total relaxation. While the rolling hills and pristine bays go a long way to helping visitors unwind, there's no beating a spa hotel. Many of the finest spa hotels on the Isle of Wight are independent, meaning they're able to offer a unique range of treatments, many of which can be tailored to the needs of the individual.

The Melville Hall Hotel and Utopia Spa is among the most popular on the island. Location in Sandown, on the east coast, the spa hotel also enjoys a peaceful, rural setting.

    Helpful Hosts

Staying in an independent hotel, it's not uncommon for your hosts to a take a real interest in your stay. Plying you with local knowledge, they can really help you to get the most from your time on the island.
