Hannover, the capital of the Lower Saxony region, is a modern metropolis with medieval roots. Expedia has a great range of hotels in Hannover, from convenient budget options to five-star luxury n the heart of the city. Use our search filters to find your perfect Hannover accommodation.
If you want to stroll through picturesque market squares fringed by half-timbered buildings and soaring churches, Hannover is a perfect choice. If you want distinctive museums, scenic parks and beautiful surrounding countryside, Hannover has that covered too. And if you’re coming here to do business, you’ll find several excellent conference and event venues, as well as a wide range of business-friendly hotels.
Step out of a Hannover hotel and you step into some 750 years of history. Hannover’s many historic buildings are some of its most popular attractions – follow the Rote Faden (Red Thread) walking route to see the key sights, including the grand Market Church and the two town halls. The old town hall is a traditional Saxon half-timbered building, while the larger new town hall is a grand civic palace whose observation gallery gives panoramic views across the city.
Hannover’s city centre boasts a splendid group of connected parks in varying styles. The Herrenhauser Garten is a grand formal affair, which borders on the Berggarten, home to an important botanical collection and the SEA LIFE Aquarium. The Georgengarten is a long green corridor landscaped in the English style, leading to the Prinzengarten Welfengarten, now part of the Leibniz University campus.
Hannover is home to a fine range of museums and galleries. The Historisches Museum Hannover is filled with interesting exhibits detailing the city’s journey from medieval to modern; the Lower Saxony State Museum has galleries devoted to natural history, ethnographic exhibits and artworks from the Middle Ages to the present; and the Sprengel Art Museum houses an important collection of modern art, with works by Picasso, Fernand Léger, Max Ernst and Paul Klee, among others.
Choose a hotel in Hannover city centre to be close to the city’s lively shopping scene. Traditional markets still thrive in the old town’s pretty cobbled streets and squares, and the Christmas period fills them with festive wares and attractions. For contemporary shopping, head to Ernst August Galerie by the main train station, where you can pick up big-brand fashion, homewares, gadgets and gifts. You’ll also find some upmarket boutiques in smaller shopping centres such as Kröpcke Passage.
Hannover’s dining scene covers most world cuisines, but be sure to sample some traditional Saxon fare during your Hannover hotel sta. Look out for Blinsen and Klitscher pancakes, Kochwurst sausages and Fischbrötchen fish sandwiches – and wash them down with beer from the local Herrenhauser or Gilde breweries.
