Find hotels in Fogliano from £41

The best area to stay in Fogliano is in the historic centre of the town, particularly around Piazza Grande and the streets immediately surrounding it.

This area is the heart of Fogliano, characterised by its medieval architecture, narrow cobbled lanes, and stunning views of the Umbrian countryside. You'll find many of the town's best restaurants, artisan shops, and local landmarks within a short stroll. The Piazza Grande itself is a focal point, often hosting local events and providing a lovely spot for an aperitivo.

Couples looking for a romantic and authentic Italian experience will find the historic centre ideal. The intimate setting, the ability to wander hand-in-hand through ancient streets, and the abundance of charming trattorias make it superb for a memorable getaway. Many accommodations here are boutique hotels or renovated historic buildings, offering a unique stay.

For families, staying slightly outside the immediate bustling centre but still within a 10-15 minute walk can offer a good balance. Areas just off the main piazza, perhaps towards the town's perimeter walls, often feature accommodations with a bit more space, sometimes with gardens or terraces, while still providing easy access to all the town's amenities and sights.

The best time to visit Fogliano is during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) months.

During spring, the Umbrian countryside is lush and green, with wildflowers in bloom. The temperatures are pleasantly mild, typically ranging from 15°C to 25°C, making it ideal for exploring the rolling hills, vineyards, and olive groves surrounding Fogliano. It's a wonderful time for scenic drives and outdoor activities without the intensity of the summer heat.

For those who enjoy culinary experiences and wine tasting, autumn is perfect. The grape harvest usually takes place in September, and the olive harvest follows in October and November. The weather remains comfortable, averaging 18°C to 22°C, and the landscape transforms with rich, warm colours. Many local festivals celebrating food and wine occur during this season, offering a genuine taste of Umbrian culture.

While summer (July and August) offers long, sunny days, temperatures can often exceed 30°C, which might be too hot for some travellers, especially for extensive outdoor exploration.
