We had a lovely warm welcome and the room and amenities were fantastic. The food was good in the hotel, just a shame the bar wasn't open separately. However the room was really comfortable and clean with nice coffee!

It was absolutely lovely! Very close to Edinburgh Waverley and some lovely restaurants. Calton Hill is right next door as well. The front desk staff was very helpful, and the room was plush and clean. We wish we could stay longer!

Overall good experience! The hostel arranged fun activities offering everyone a chance to get to know one another. Lovely hosts/staff that were happy to help you, always. Fresh bathrooms, nice bedding and good sized pods.

Adored the lady that checked us in, who assisted us at a later point throughout our stay. The hotel was lovely, clean and warm. The swimming pool was a little cold at first but not too much of a problem. The room was lovely and spacious. The breakfast was phenomenal, with a continental bar to help yourself to. I highly recommend the eggs benedict! A slight issue with a female member of staff on the hotel bar on our second time in there who had rudely stated that our first time wasn't paid for,...

A well located modern hotel across the road from the main train station. We asked for a view and our room was overlooking the main street, which was really nice. Comfy bed, super clean and zero noise from outside due to secondary double glazing. The hotel use papercups in rooms for tea and coffee, which does not feel eco friendly as they are disposed after each use.
Staff are very friendly and the bar area is modern and well used. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend.

As far as hostels go, this one was premier. The staff are fantastic, the bathrooms were kept immaculate and plenty of facilities. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are spacious. I stayed in an 8 bed dorm and it was perfect from the view to the company. Theres a lounge area and breakfast has a great selection. Very central location and in walking distance from everything youd be doing in Edinburgh. I was extremely impressed. Thankyou kick ass hostels for a great base to recharge between...

We stayed in December, and the hotel was simply delightful. We have a deluxe room which comes with an ensuite shower room but in fact we made use of the shared bathroom next door which has a huge bath tub with very hot water. The room was beautiful and very comfortable. There is no flat-packed furniture, and everything suits the style of a Victorian townhouse. The bed had mattress comforters that made it very comfortable. I suffer from a bad back so it was really wonderful to find a hotel with a...

Great value for money for an Edinburgh stay. Convenient for city centre attractions, bus services especially for airport. Sad to see deterioration of state of surrounding area, dirty, litter but that's not the fault of Cityroomz. Happening all over UK as Tory national government cuts local budgets. Scotland needs independence

There are actually two buildings, and having stayed in both, I definitely preferred the building located above Belushi's bar. The bathrooms and toilets there are newer and better maintained, and the room layout felt much less cramped. The main building (where check-in is located) features triple bunk beds, which made the room feel a bit tight and felt like it could use a little maintenance—but both buildings are secure and comfortable.

When is the most affordable time to visit Ecclesmachan?
The most affordable time to visit Ecclesmachan is typically during the shoulder seasons of spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October), as well as the off-peak winter months (November-March), excluding the Christmas and New Year period. During these times, you'll find lower prices on accommodation and flights compared to the bustling summer.
While Ecclesmachan itself is a small village, its affordability is tied to the wider West Lothian and Edinburgh travel market. For solo travellers, visiting in spring or autumn means you can enjoy the Scottish countryside with fewer crowds and more competitive rates on guesthouses and B&Bs in nearby towns like Linlithgow or Livingston. Public transport options, like local buses, remain consistent year-round, offering an inexpensive way to explore the area.
Winter also presents a budget-friendly opportunity, especially for couples looking for a quieter, more intimate escape. Many local attractions, such as the historic sites around Linlithgow Palace, are less crowded, and some may offer reduced off-season entry fees.

It's a vast expanse of woodland and riverside paths, great for a leisurely walk or a brisk hike. The park features diverse wildlife, bridges, and even some historic ruins, offering plenty to see and photograph.
History buffs can explore the external grounds of Linlithgow Palace, the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots. While entry to the interior has a fee, wandering around the Loch Linlithgow and the palace's exterior provides a magnificent glimpse into Scotland's past, all completely free. The nearby historic town of Linlithgow itself is charming to walk through, with its old streets and architecture.
Additionally, many local walking and cycling routes crisscross the West Lothian countryside. These paths often lead through picturesque landscapes, offering opportunities for quiet contemplation and fresh air.
