Duivendrecht may only be a small town next to Amsterdam, it is of great importance to the Netherlands. The town has some things to offer of its own, but also has superb connections to other cities in the Netherlands, in case you want to see more of the country.
When you decide to stay in Duivendrecht, you will have to pick a hotel. This might not be the easiest task while planning your trip. Keep your own needs and preferences in mind while researching a hotel. Do you want to stay in the centre of the town, for example?
Duivendrecht is a town just south of Amsterdam, although the city has grown around the town and Duivendrecht is bordered by Amsterdam on three sides now. Duivendrecht consists of three parts: the town, a part of the industrial park Amsterdam Business Park and a rural area on the Amstel. Within the Netherlands, Duivendrecht is mostly known as the name of a train station in or close to Amsterdam.
Are you interested in the historical value of Duivendrecht? The town has been important in the past because it was located right between the cities of Amsterdam and Utrecht. It still is an important connection for trains as well as cars. Unfortunately there is not much history to be seen around Duivendrecht anymore, just the Sint-Urbanuschurch and the road Rijksstraatweg. There are two mansions next to the church; Sophia’s Hoeve and Anthoniushoeve. Both date from the end of the 19th century and have been registered as monuments. Some material can be found at the Historical Museum Ouder-Amstel.
Do you have to be in Amsterdam for an event? Duivendrecht is a great home base, since the town is very close to some of the biggest venues in Amsterdam and has great connections to Amsterdam by public transport. Some nearby venues are Ziggo Dome, AFAS Live (formerly known as Heineken Music Hall), Amsterdam RAI and Arena. This is where some of the biggest concerts, shows and events are held, such as Amsterdam Dance Event.
Since Duivendrecht is practically located in the city of Amsterdam –and has great connections by bus, train and metro- do not skip a visit to the capital of the Netherlands. Go shopping in the Kalverstraat, visit a museum at Museumplein and wander along the canals while admiring the city.
Thanks to the great connections, Duivendrecht is also a great destination in case you want to discover more of the Netherlands. There are trains going to cities such as Utrecht, Rotterdam, Leiden, Breda and Den Haag. All these cities are bigger cities with universities, which means there are countless restaurants and bars as well as facilities such as shops, theatres, cinemas and museums. Rotterdam is known for its architecture, while The Hague is the political capital of the country.
Each hotel in Duivendrecht has their own qualities and facilities to offer. Decide on which facilities you would like to use during your stay in Duivendrecht and then do some research. How does a hotel that offers breakfast, bikes for rent and a sauna at the end of the day sound?
