Derbyshire is a warm and welcoming county, with plenty for younger visitors to see and do. From family theme parks to underground caves and historic buildings, days out as a family are an easy in Derbyshire. There’s plenty of accommodation for those travelling with little ones, ranging from mid-range inns and hotels to upmarket establishments, where you can treat your loved ones to a little slice of luxury.
Location is vital in the right family-friendly hotel. Most children need stimulation and engagement to stave off boredom, and in addition, getting out and about is a great way to prise older children away from portable devices. Luckily, the majority of Derbyshire family-friendly hotels are within easy access of a famous landmark or two. The Derbyshire Hotel, in Alfreton, is close to a number of attractions: muggles of all ages will enjoy a game at the Derby Union Quidditch Club, while those with cultural leanings might like to catch a show at the nearby Pomegranate Theatre.
One member of the family that’s often overlooked is the family pet. Leaving your dog in kennels can add unwanted angst to young shoulders, so why not take him with you? There are a few family-friendly hotels in Derbyshire that allow dogs on-site, such as the Shrigley Hall Hotel, Golf and Country Club. By bringing your furry friend with you, you can be sure he gets the exercise that he needs.
Dining out with children can be difficult at the best of times. While there are plenty of excellent places to eat in Derbyshire, it can be a good idea to check into a family-friendly hotel with its own on-site restaurant. That way, if little ones start getting sleepy, the room is only seconds away. In addition, most family-friendly hotel restaurants offer children’s menus, and will happily alter dishes to suit less adventurous palates. Some hotels, such as the Twin Oaks hotel in Chesterfield, can even provide a packed lunch to see you through a busy day’s sightseeing.
Derbyshire is a superb county in which to enjoy some downtime as a family. With plenty of family-friendly accommodation on offer, you can enjoy the sights at your own pace.
