Amman and Jordan’s North
Amman is a bustling blend of ancient and modern, with a range of historical attractions complemented by great shopping and dining opportunities. Be sure to visit the Roman Amphitheatre, and the Jordan Museum, and make the climb to the Citadel to enjoy its ruins and views of the city. North of Amman lies Jerash with its spectacular network of Greco-Roman ruins – highlights include the Temples of Zeus and Artemis, the unusual oval-shaped Forum and Hadrian’s Arch. The nearby town of Madaba is home to the Greek Orthodox Church of St George – the Church of the Map – famed for its sixth-century floor mosaic map which depicts the River Jordan, the Dead Sea and Jerusalem.
Visit the Dead Sea Region
Sweimeh lies on the north-eastern shore of the Dead Sea, famous both for being the lowest point on Earth and its extremely salty water which create a unique bathing and spa experience in a setting that becomes even more spectacular at sunset. Head south to visit the Dead Sea Museum, which combines informative exhibits with a spectacular view. You can also climb to Lot’s Cave, associated with the biblical account of Lot’s flight from Sodom and Gomorrah. Mujib Nature Reserve features a Canyon Walk, a great place to get your feet wet following a water course carved through spectacular corridors of multi-coloured rock. Cross over to the Palestinian West Bank to visit the Jordan River Baptismal Site, the ancient city of Jericho, and the Qumran Caves, home to the Dead Sea Scrolls before heading back to your Marriott hotel for a relaxing evening.
