Explore Torremolinos with Expedia’s Travel Guides to find the best hotels, flights, holiday packages and more!
Mainland Spain is full of cheap and cheerful holiday destinations, but Torremolinos has to be one of the best when it comes to family fun and sunshine. Located on the Costa del Sol, this resort town is famous for its amusement parks, family-friendly hotels and restaurants, shopping opportunities and bustling sandy beaches. If you want to make the most of the area, look into your car rental options, as hiring a car for Torremolinos will give you freedom to travel between the big attractions and also explore a little of the surrounding areas.
Torremolinos does not have its own airport, but there is one close by in the city of Malaga. Malaga-Costa del Sol Airport (AGP) is located on the southern outskirts of the city, just five miles north of Torremolinos. This makes it the perfect place to hire your own vehicle. Car hire brands here include Enterprise and Hertz, but there are also some Spanish rental companies operating out of the airport – find out more by using the Expedia search tool. Once you have acquired your rental car, you can drive south to the centre of Torremolinos in just 15 minutes.
Travellers who do not want to hire a car at Malaga Airport will also have the choice of renting one in Torremolinos itself. You can reach the city from Malaga Airport by taking a taxi or bus. Your quickest option, however, is to take the train, as this reaches Torremolinos Station in just 11 minutes, before continuing on to other major stops such as Benalmadena-Arroyo de la Miel. Once in Torremolinos, you’ll find car hire agencies dotted around the city in several different locations, with a particular concentration close to the city marina.
Once you have your own car, you have the option of getting out of the city for day trips. Nearby Malaga boasts a medieval Moorish palace, Alcazaba, and the world-famous Picasso Museum. All can be reached by car in just half an hour. Southwest of Torremolinos, meanwhile, is the town of Fuengirola, home of the historic Sohail Castle and some lovely stretches of beach. Further inland, the whitewashed hilltop village of Mijas is an ideal day-trip destination. With its winding cobbled streets and quaint museums, it provides a charming contrast to the hustle, bustle and colour of Torremolinos.
One of the main benefits of hiring a car when you visit Torremolinos is that you can visit the nearby theme parks. In the north of the city, Aqualand, Dinosaurios Park and Crocodile Park can be easily accessed by car. To the south, Tivoli World, Sea Life Benalmadena and the Selwo Delfinarium are excellent places to spend a half-day with the kids. Even further out are the Benalmadena Butterfly Park and – in neighbouring Fuengirola – an excellent zoo. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous (and energetic), you could even try to visit all of them in one day…
