We enjoyed at stay at Rising Sun Hotel. It was easy to park there, the staff were great, we had a lot of space in our twin room - and we had a nice warm shower. Great views from the restaurant/pub - and from our room. A comfortable bed and a filling breakfast. As we booked fairly last minute and were looking for a low price hotel in the Cotswolds, we would recommend this one. There was nowhere to store our clothes (but - the floor was plenty big enough for our suitcases) and the heating wasn’t working well (admittedly we didn’t report this) - but overall we felt it was good for the price we paid.

A good location and the view was lovely. Let down though by how we arrived to having to wait as no staff were on reception. Plus was first allocated to a room at 2pm a dirty room . The rooms were comfortable but wasn't expecting to be moved around within the first 5 minutes of getting there un organised

Property set within lovely views between Bishops Cleeve and Winchcombe. Very little nearby so car is a good idea, although there is a bus stop outside. Needs some money spending on some of the areas of the building. Attention to detail required, for example several curtain hooks missing and curtain are creased. Black mould on bathroom areas. Shortage of staff, but current staff members seem to work hard, are polite and willing to assist.

I booked this hotel via Expedia. Five minutes after doing so, I realized I had made a mistake. I had booked the correct dates but the wrong location. I made many calls to Expedia and the hotel direct to try to cancel the booking, but I couldn't get a refund. The stay was still months away, but that didn't make any difference. After arriving in the UK, I realized that Greene King is a chain. They could have offered me a different hotel in my desired location. I would have been happy to pay the difference. As we checked in, the manager inexplicably dropped the f bomb. It just slipped out. It wasnt a stressful situation, it was just a natural part of her language. I bought my son a drink from the bar. When he asked for ice, the person serving said they had 'run out'. From this experience I learned to never book a hotel that doesn’t have a reasonable cancelation policy. It's an indication of poor management. I will never use Expedia again either.

Lovely views. Shame about the scruffy windows in the room and restaurant that spoilt it. Staff were great but too few, particularly at breakfast. Evening food wasn’t the best. Hotel not for people with wheelchairs or limited ability due to the number of stairs to negotiate to get around. Otherwise ok for a short stay over.

Lovely stay at The Rising Sun,what an incredible view .All the staff were polite and helpful and the food in the restaurant was very good.Would stay there again if I was visiting the area.

Rising Sun is well situated and spacious. It has a glorious outlook and great restaurant. Staff are congenial and helpful. Our only problems were no wifi reception in our room and very cold. Staff assisted to adjust heating after several requests but could not help with wifi. Would still recommend this hotel though.

Really disappointing
Initially reception and room okay although room definately needs updating. Bar staff and dinner okay....this review however changes dramatically upon breakfast. Considering the number of residents only 2 staff employed for breakfast and in our case from the time we sat down till ee left was 1 hour and that was just for english breakfast. The breakfast when it arrived was awful. Everything luke warm. Very fatty bacon, insipid looking sausage, tomato green and raw, blackpudding not cooked through and the toast (one small piece) arri ed on the same plate. Because there were only 2 staff it took ages to mention the above and was then offered another breakfast...i dont think so. Asked for more toast which eventually came piled up on a plate...have they not heard of toast racks. So unfortunately if asked how our stay was we only remember because of the awful breakfast.

Food in restaurant
Ate in the restaurant on Friday evening. My partner had scampi as main course and I had steak and ale pie. My partner spent the two and a half days constantly needing to go to the toilet and I had an upset stomach on Saturday. Reported directly to the hotel earlier and the general manager has agreed to refund only the cost of scampi meal. Given that the weekend was somewhat spoiled I would think that as a minimum gesture of upholding first class customer service the full cost ot this meal should have been refunded.

Nice place with very friendly staff
It was a nice place and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent and great value. The rooms and inside the hotel are a little dated, however its great value.

This hotel has a good location near Cheltenham and close to the Cotswold Way. It is a comfortable hotel and can be a busy venue when functions are taking place.

Breakfast disappointing
The Rising Sun Hotel was clean, comfortable and in an ideal place for exploring the cotswolds. The only disappointment was the breakfast. I decided to have a continental breakfast but was told that there were no croissants left. I was told it is first come first served. They also seemed short of serving staff as we had to wait ages for any kind of service.

Great views from our bedroom window. Comfy bed, chairs, table etc. clean bathroom. But sash windows were draughty and need replacing. Food...some was excellent, some just average, but big thanks for separate Gluten-free menu. (Frozen/chilled and reheated). Good range of drinks inc gf bottled beer.
