Faded glory

Room smelt and bathroom archaic for the price. Great location, which worked as we were at a wedding nearby.

Great room

Posted 10-Jul-2016
Pros: Comfort of room
Cons: New Carpet in the reception and bar
We stayed at the Mercure Newbury Elcot Park Hotel recently whilst attending an event. The price payed was very reasonable and we booked on a room only basis. The hotel looks very classy from the outside but once inside you notice a very grubby carpet leading to the reception and bar area. First impressions are very important and we thought a hotel like this should look smarter. However, Our room was great, spacious with a view over the countryside. It was clean and had a large bed.

Few days away

Posted 05-Apr-2016
The hotel is situated at the end of a small lane off the A4 a few miles outside Newbury. Reception is in the original house as is the restaurant. Our room was on the ground floor was spacious with a separate bathroom and lobby area. The hotel was clean and pleasant and well situated for exploring the area. Breakfast is not included and the restaurant seemed expensive for the quality of food. Fortunately there are good alternatives in the area.

Beautiful hotel and setting

Posted 04-Apr-2016
Stayed for three nights and really enjoyed the hotel and area. We had the lowest budget double room which was still very large and comfortable with a big bathroom and sash windows. Staff were polite and helpful. The hotel is tastefully decorated in a period style. Local area has some nice countryside and a couple of nice gastropubs. Very pleasant outside area to enjoy a coffee with great views. Really handy for Highclere Castle which really is a magnificent place. Minor issues - The hotel breakfast was ok but not really worth the money (although this was an optional extra). Have to say whilst the breakfast wasn't anything to write home about, the orangery is a nice place to eat. Also advertised is giant chess and croquet but these were nowhere to be seen. Overall great stay, would recommend and go back.

Friendly and comfortable

Very nice country house hotel. It's not to ideally located but is close enough to M4 and Newbury to be a better choice than the major hotel brands.
