The town of Limavady, in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland, is located in a spot which offers convenient and quick access to many of the things which make Ireland special, and which persuade those who visit to return time and time again.
Located just off the scenic A2 coast road, it is minutes away from one of the longest and most spectacular beaches of Ireland, is surrounded by the rugged peaks of the Binevenagh and Benbradagh Mountains, and sits next door to the River Roe and the glistening waters of Lough Foyle. The natural beauty of the landscape is augmented by a town centre which combines urban sophistication with old fashioned Irish hospitality.
Limavady offers a rich and varied experience which means it attracts visitors from around the world with a broad range of tastes. Adventure sports enthusiasts can chose between adrenalin-fuelled activities such as windsurfing, rock climbing and even hang gliding, while golfers are spoiled by the choice of several parkland and links courses. Families, meanwhile, will never be short of things for the kids to do and couples on a romantic break can stroll hand in hand along the beach, beside the river or on the shore of the lake.
The accommodation on offer in Limavady reflects this eclecticism, running from simple bed and breakfasts and traditional guesthouses, up to luxurious spa hotels and country house lodges set in their own grounds. No matter where your Limavady hotel is located, you’ll be just a short trip away from attractions such as the Benone Tourist Complex.
The Benone Tourist Complex is a four star caravan and camping site next to the sandy sweep of the Benone Strand. As well as accommodation running from caravans and touring pitches to deluxe “glamping” lodges, the site offers a range of tourist facilities which can be accessed and enjoyed by day visitors. The complex is located on Benone Avenue, 12 miles to the north of Limavady town centre and just off the A2 coast road.
The first thing to recommend Benone is its stunning location. Binevanagh Mountain is literally right next door and the Blue Flag award-winning Benone Strand Beach is just a quick stroll through the sand dunes away. When you’ve stopped admiring the views, however, you can take advantage of the facilities, particularly if you’ve got a couple of children eager to let off some steam.
The jewel in the crown is probably a spectacular heated outdoor splash pool, and kids of all ages can also enjoy themselves in an indoor games room, on the tennis court or cavorting on the bouncy castle. If even thinking about that tires you out, rest assured you’ll be able to relax in the café, or enjoy some delicious home-cooked cuisine amid the fresh air of the veranda.
Golfers are particularly well catered for by Benone Tourist Complex, which has a 9 hole, par three course, a putting green and a practice range. The bulk of the facilities are open during the main holiday season, with opening times varying from month to month, although the golf is on offer all year round.
