Lancashire has a great industrial heritage, deriving from its genesis during the 18th Century Industrial Revolution and lasting well into modern times. The great Victorian entrepreneurs and captains of industry erected memorials to themselves as well as civic buildings for the good of the community, and in this way much of their vast fortunes did indeed trickle down the generations and to some extent benefit all members of society. You can find the Ashton Memorial in Williamson Park, in the county town of Lancaster.
