Budget Hotels in Basel

Basel has a decent range of budget hotels if you’re looking for a place to stay that won’t break the bank. There’s a good handful of B&Bs and cheap hotels mainly to the south and east of the city centre, plus affordable apartments and a hostel near the main Basel SBB railway station.

Explore Basel On Free Public Transport

On your visit to Basel, transport costs will be one thing you won’t have to worry about because all visitors staying in the city can take advantage of the Mobility Ticket. It allows you free use of public transport in Basel and the surrounding areas for the whole duration of your stay, up to a maximum of 30 days. As long as you’re staying in officially registered accommodation, you’ll receive your transport ticket when you check in. You can even use your booking confirmation to get to your Basel hotel from EuroAirport or one of Basel’s railway stations when you first arrive. So whether you choose to stay in a budget hotel in Basel city centre or an apartment further out, you can travel around the old town, riverside and world-class architecture of this cosmopolitan city without having to pay a thing.

Affordable Basel Sightseeing From Your Basel Hotel

If you’d like to make the most of the many attractions in Switzerland’s capital of culture, pick up a BaselCard for one, two or three days, and you’ll get half-price entry into the city’s excellent museums plus a free city tour, free ferry trip and free entry to get up close to the animals in Basel Zoo. There’s no entry fee all year round to the wonderful Botanical Gardens based at the university at Petersplatz, and you can explore the intriguing buildings, narrow streets and magnificent squares of Basel’s old town under your own steam or group together with other visitors to book an expert guide. For eating and drinking on a budget, make the most of Basel’s lovely riverside location or one of the city’s parks with a picnic, or try choosing vegetarian options if you fancy a meal out.
