Old lighthouses are wonderfully romantic spots, with their inspiring views, lonely locations, and a powerful proximity to the elements. Lighthouses don’t come much better than South Stack’s which has stood proud since 1809. Not far from Holyhead, the largest town on the island of Anglesey and, these days, a busy ferry port, the lighthouse assists the passage of ships on the Dublin–Holyhead–Liverpool sea route, which crosses some famously stormy seas.

"Fabulous stay, staff welcoming attentive and smiling. Room a treat, balcony with view overlooking the Menai. Bed very comfortable ( setee too ). Was a bit noisy on Saturday night but didn’t bother us. Garden seating a real area of tranquility "
"Friendly efficient staff, good food and lively bar.
Generally in need of a bit of a makeover but charming none the less.
Room was a bit too hot ( no air con)"
"Comfortable room, really lovely lady checked me in.
It was noisy at closing time (people outside) but that's out of the hotel's control - the room was above a pub, so to be expected.
Clean, nice cup of tea, lovely shower - it was a comfortable room and I will definitely book again for future trips."
"It was a really nice older property. The staff were all lovely and helpful, they had suggestions of where to go and what to see. The breakfast was really good and there was plenty of choice. The dining room, was roomy and had a great views. We had dinner there a couple of nights, although there wasn't a massive choice, we enjoyed what we ordered. The room was nice and clean, but a bit dated. It really is in a great location. Very easy for Anglesey."
"Arrived and no one had any idea which tent we were supposed to be in. Originally taken to one that had no made beds, litter, broken chairs and an inflatable dirty lazy spa (advised as a hot tub).
Then got told to my relief wasn’t our tent. Instead we were taken to another tent that was transparent in a small field squished in with another 5-6 tents and had a dirty deflated paddling pool in the centre. Again no beds were made so we had to wait outside with our stuff while a young lad threw some grey unironed bedding on our beds and attempted to brush the floors.
It was 27 degrees and due to the tent being 60% transparent provided no shade for our small children, I messaged the host to inform them this wasn’t what we booked and was basically told if we weren’t happy we could find somewhere else to stay. I did try but at the peak of the summer unless I wanted to pay £800 a night there was nowhere else on the island to stay at such short notice. So we decided to try and make the most of the situation to not disappoint the children and my husband went out to the shops and brought back a parasol to provide some shade.
Getting ready for bed was 2 toilets and a shower in a she’d for more than 20 people to share. We decided to skip showers and had to sit on the floor of the tent to get changed as to not expose ourselves to the whole camp. Then we realised the tent zips were bust so couldn’t keep out the 1000 bugs. Needless to say we left and were back on the road at 10pm."
