Lovely building, furnishings, gardens and views. Polite and helpful staff. Small and rather basic room for a "standard double". Limited and unimaginative catering for evening meals. Breakfast was well below par for such accommodation. Car parking limited for anyone with mobility issues as most vehicles parked in lower area of gardens with many steps for access.

It was almost going to be a bad review…
We were disappointed when we entered our ground level room, it was small, did not have a bath or bath robes as hotels.com stated, it had a very large shower room. An exterior access door situated behind our shower room banged loudly when people shut it. If this had continued on after 10pm we would have complained. We were only stopping for one night in the cheapest room, but it still cost £234. That’s the bad, the good which out weighs this; the building is fabulous, you must spend time exploring it. The evening meal was £28 for chicken, mash and veg, sounds a lot but this is top quality food, it was superb, out of my budget for every day eating but for a treat, excellent. The staff were excellent. If it was not for the staff, the fabulous food and such a grand building we would have complained. Would I go back, I don’t know, I usually stop in a Hilton if it’s a special occasion and much cheaper establishments if it’s a general jaunt, the size of the room and the lack of a bath in the cheaper room puts me off. Oh, as it is rural it’s dark and the overflow car park is on the other side of the unlit garden, so take a torch, as I said, it’s rural, why wouldn’t you have a torch.
