Close to JR and subway, not too big but with all the amenities of a big hotel, elegant, new and quiet, with free wi-fi and a beautiful garden to watch while you enjoy your full breakfast. Simply perfect.

I stayed here for a week as a base for exploring Tokyo. It was a good location - Suidobashi isn't a hotspot for tourists, and the hotel itself is set a block back from a main road, so it was fairly quiet. But it's 5 minutes walk to the JR station, and across the river is the subway station, so it's great for getting around Tokyo.
The room itself was very nice. It was adequate size; other travelers might comment on how small it is but this is typical of anywhere in Japan. I was traveling by myself so it was no problem. The room had a large single bed, and a washer-dryer with English instructions (washing powder can be bought in single serves from reception). There is a small fridge in the room but I think it only works when the room is powered - ie your room key is plugged in. So it will refrigerate overnight but not while you're out during the day.
The staff spoke good English. The room included buffet breakfast, which was pretty good compared to most Japanese hotels: toast, juice, tea & coffee, a salad, and a rotating hot food menu which included fried rice, scrambled eggs, hamburger steaks in sauce, and curry chicken.
The room included free wifi which was reliable and worked well.

Considering the location of the Youth Center, and its low price- I was initially rather apprehensive about how it would turn out. For a price like that, I was expecting to end up sleeping in a room that was comparable to a jail cell.
However, I was incredibly surprised by what the hotel offered. The rooms are small and, as many have commented, outdated, but for a place to just stay whilst exploring Tokyo and the surrounding areas- it is fantastic.
The rooms came with free wifi (just ask the desk for the password), TV and aircon- which was a much needed thing in the middle of a Tokyo summer. The desk is open 24/7, which meant there was no pressure for me to rush back from my activities around Tokyo, and the short distance from the station (which is only a fews stops away from Tokyo station, Akihabara and Ueno) made it incredibly well situated.
I'd definitely recommend the YMCA youth center to people who are wanting to make the most of Tokyo, but not have to drop a lot of money on accommodation.
Excellent hotel and price is reasonable for a Tokyo hotel. Excellent for families with theme park just outside hotel. Easy to get around with subway and train, 15 mins to Tokyo, Shinjuku via train. Will go back there again when I visit Tokyo.
