If you like outstanding views of a beautiful valley, surrounding by mountains, in a quiet place and with great walking routes to make, this is the perfect location for you. The hotel itself is very nice and cousy. Food is great and the staff, very friendly and helpful.

This hotel is in Elterwater which is a nice village but nothing like Ambleside. Do not expect to be able to walk to Ambleside!
Still, nice hotel (on a time - share complex) with great facilities. Two good pubs within walking distance and some great scenery / nice walks. All in all, not what we expected but would definitely go back.

Just had three wonderful days in the Lakes, staying at the Dale Lodge Hotel again. Fabulous hotel, wonderful food, excellent facilities and lovely comfy room with tea-making equipment (and a teapot), biscuits and mints. En-suite facilities lovely with Molton and Brown complementary toiletries. Staff helpful and welcoming. Ideal location for exploring Grasmere, Ambleside etc. Had a lovely meal in Tweedies bar as well (their bar/restaurant). Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

"Good Hotel, good location and very helpful staff"
We stayed a few days at the Wordsworth after much research. The reviews that I read were mixed but I have only positive things to say about the hotel. We did not use the spa facilities so are unable to comment on them other than the gym looked small from what I saw through an open door. My first impression was Reception where I thought the decor was a little dark but my wife thought was more traditional. There are several lounges and what appeared a comfortable bar, again somewhere we didn't use. Our room was superb, as we had been upgraded to a junior suite, with plenty of space, a comfortable sofa and a balcony with table and chairs. The bathroom was excellent, with a bath with jacuzzi, and it had obviously been recently renovated. The bed itself was large and comfortable. We didn't eat in the main restaurant but used the Bistro on both nights of our stay. The food was reasonable, if not brilliant, and the prices acceptable. Overall it was an enjoyable stay in a hotel that was well situated for a number of very pleasant walks out of Grasmere. We would be very happy to stay again at the Hotel.

Nice re-vamped hotel on the outskirts of Grasmere village, which is just a 5 minute walk away. Friendly attentive staff. Room spotless with very comfy bed and modern Bathroom. Didn't see a lift so possible problem for the less able bodied. Great selection for breakfast. Would recommend.
We first stayed here in 1989 and stayed numerous times in the 1990's, in 2001, 2002 and the last time in 2004. It had lost it's edge a little for us in the transition from a privately run and owned hotel to part of a chain (Von Essen). Recent developments, a new owner, and good reviews tempted us back and we were not disappointed! It isn't the same as in the days of Francis and Brian - it never could be - but it is still a unique experience. The position on Ullswater couldn't be better (I'd go for the views alone!), the staff were helpful and friendly, the food was exceptional without following fashion. Sharrow Bay always did things it's own way and that was what made it special. The décor and furnishings suit the house and location superbly and I'm pleased to see the Hotel still dares to be different in that respect. We won't leave it as long before our next visit. It is still Simply the Best!

It was one of the cheapest options we found on expedia, but was a great place. The food was very good, the host is super friendly and nice.
Only downside is that it could be a bit warm, but a provided fan did the trick, and it is off of a busy trip so could be noisier than you are use to.
The hotel is ideally located in the centre of Ambleside. We were in a 'lodge' behind the main building, which was accessed through a couple of doors. The room itself consisted of a large bedroom with doors to a balcony overlooking a stream /waterfall, which would have been lovely in summer (but was a bit damp to use in late October). The bathroom was clean and tidy, the shower had a good flow, but tended to splash on to the floor a bit due to a small partition. Wasn't an issue other than making the floor a bit slippy. Car park was busy, but always got a spot - you have to negotiate the rising bollards and use an exit code - drive up to the bollard when you arrive and it automatically retracts into the ground. You get the exit code from reception. Breakfast was the highlight of the stay - excellent staff who took very precise notes of what cooked food we wanted and delivered it quickly and without fuss. Good selection of fruit, yoghurt and other buffet based foods too. Would certainly stay here again.
