Not a place to relax

Posted 04-Jul-2015
I would avoid if you want to relax, weddings and proms going on while I was there, with doors banging and wedding guest shouting and running up the corridor. Also couldn't have windows open as music blasting away till after midnight. Otherwise a very nice hotel, staff very good

A Three Day Break

Posted 26-Jun-2015
Pros: The size of the bedroom.
Cons: The food in the bar area.
Location: Lovely location. Short walk downhill into town but a steep walk back. Very close to the harbour, shops and restaurants.
Large bedroom with a wonderful sea view. Balcony to sit out on and enjoy the water sports. When we stayed there was a yachting race taking place. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Only downside was the bar meal. Perhaps the restaurant would have been a better choice but obviously more expensive.

The hotel is grand and has the most beautiful view of Torquay. However, the receptionists were terrible and assigned us to such a small room that even for single occupancy, it would seemed inadequate. The bed was tilting and tucked into the corner of the room. The toilet was dripping with water at night. Two of the light bulbs in the room was not working. When I tried to approach the reception counter, twice, the staff walked away, probably rather ashame of the room offered to us. It gave me the impression that those of us booking through the Internet were treated as third class clients. The other staff in the restaurant and for housekeeping, however, were friendly.

We originally booked a standard room but on arrival we could not use the outdoor swimming pool but then we were upgraded to a suite which was beautiful.

Character hotel, close to centre, beautiful views

Posted 04-Jun-2015
Pros: Absolutely gorgeous view, worth staying here for.
Cons: We had a room without a sea view which was quite hot as there was only a small window which only opened slightly. Not a real problem during our stay
Location: 10 minutes walk from Torquay. Lots of nice restaurants and bars. A good base from which to explore the local area. Totnes and Dartmouth worth a visit.
My husband and I had a last minute 3 night break here. The hotel has been described as "dated". In fact it has loads of character. Long sweeping staircases and lots of the original architecture. It was clean, comfortable, within a ten minute walk of the centre of Torquay and with the most fantastic views over the water. The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast buffet very good value with a large selection of cold and hot food which was constantly replenished. I used the leisure complex which was small but clean. Lovely bar area where you can sit and have a drink or eat whilst enjoying the fabulous view. Rooms were clean and everything was replaced in the bathroom daily and the room left clean and tidy.

Location good - hotel a bit disappointing

Posted 29-May-2015
Pros: Mainly location and very peaceful and relaxing.
Cons: Reception staff and room service.
Location: Just a few hundred yards down to the marina, shops and restaurants. The 30 minute ferry trip across to Brixham was lovely, - £2.00 return per person.
The hotel is in a very good location - only a few minutes walk from the town centre and marina. Beautiful views from hotel restaurant and patio. Reception staff not very welcoming and found that we had to complain several times about things in our room which took ages to sort out, or were not sorted out at all. Breakfast was wonderful. Indoor pool and faclities were very nice. Furniture in the room was very dated. No hairdryer supplied even though it states on the website that it should have been, so remember to take one.
