"We really enjoyed our stay at the Aphrodites apartment. Uniqueness and quiet serenity of this traditional Cretan house in the mountains would be hard to match. We would be happy to return."

"Nice hotel and a good location in town and short drive to many wineries (5 minute walk to restaurants). Quiet. Outdoor private hot tub is not heated (so was not really useable in October)."

"The location near the wineries was amazing. I loved the restaurant there and the views were gorgeous. Make sure to take the day trip to Matala beach!"

"We were the only guests and were very well looked after.first rate Cretian breakfast. Bed linen changed after two days. We used their Taverna in the evenings. I would say a car is a must. The olive oil, wines (red and White House ,herbs and capers all home produced including the Rakl. Pretty easy to go north or as the main road is only minutes away, views are fantastic. "Stayed here for 7 nights.
Did not have breakfast so could not comment.
Room was cleaned every day but, for some reason the cleaner never made the bed. Instead he folded the top sheet and blankets neatly at the bottom of the bed each day.
Very close to bith the beach and town centre but no noise from outside to disturb your sleep."

"Place came with a parking spot, but it was a bit small. Was a very convenient location, had lots of food and coffee nearby. Coming in, the room smelled a bit like smoke, which was not expected. There was a wet towel in the bathroom for some reason, and there were random pipes and holes around the room. Owner was responsive, and the room was not too expensive, so I guess you get what you pay for."

"Came in the off season, and it was a complete bait and switch. Actual hotel was closed (including pool and restaurant (so no breakfast)). Placed us next door in tiny apartments. Manager gave us the key and left the property. First room had a broken toilet seat so moved us to another one. Staff spoke no English and didn’t understand that we need password for WiFi. Blanket on bed was wet. We were supposed to stay 2 nights but left the next morning."

We arrived after a late flight into Heraklion, the welcome was warm with the offer of a cold welcome beer. The room was more than we expected woth plenty of space and good amenities.
Morning arrived and we had a fabulous breakfast out on the deck admiring the view over the valley. We only spent a night here bit wish we could have had 1 more.
Highly reccomended

We had a very enjoyable stay in a quiet village, <1,000 very friendly inhabitants, a 20km drive to closest city and beaches and close to historical/archaeological sites and tavernas serving traditional food. Eating out locally is reasonably priced. A car is a must for touring the island and a good, detailed, road map. Our sat nav identified some highly suspect tracks as minor roads.

The property we stayed in was new and has been built to a very high standard. All the rooms have a shower and seperate toilet. A sink is located in each room next to the door. The living areas are bright and clean with floor to ceiling windows/doors, open plan kitchen diner with lots of space with modern appliances. All rooms had smart TVs with apps so we could login into Netflix etc. The pool was fantastic as were the sun loungers with two bean bag chairs. Around the front of the property is a...

I had a really nice stay at Chapter 02 Gallery Suites. The apartment was clean and comfortable, communication with the staff via WhatsApp was smooth, and check-in and check-out were straightforward.
A special mention goes to the lovely team at Chapter 03 Café Bistro. The food was fresh, tasty and delicious, and the place was busy every day, which says a lot about its popularity. It’s not a traditional Greek taverna, but the menu offers Greek-inspired dishes, from Greek salad to creative burgers...

Great apartment, clean and good size, very comfortable for family of 2 adults and 2 children. Would recommend to anyone staying in Heraklion. Easy access to centre and bus to Knossos.

Arolithos were nothing but accommodating the entire time we were staying. The rooms, the service, the food and outdoor facilities were fantastic. We couldn't recommend this place enough!

This is a new hotel. Room was lovely - huge with beautiful views and a private hot tub on the very large balcony. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Would definitely recommend.

Loved the modern design and well equipped room. Convenient location, only an easy twenty minute walk to the city centre. Plenty of restaurants and coffee shops within 2 minutes of the hotel. Easy ten minute walk to catch direct local bus to Knossos, you don't need an expensive tour bus, as I went for the eight am opening to miss the crowds and had left by ten am when all the tour busses turn up.

The best time to go to Xerokambos is from late April to early June and again from September to October.
These periods offer pleasant weather, with warm temperatures great for enjoying the beaches and outdoor activities without the intense heat and crowds of the peak summer months. You'll find the sea warm enough for swimming and the air comfortable for exploring.
For those seeking a quiet escape, particularly couples looking for a relaxing break, these shoulder seasons are ideal. The tavernas are open, but the area maintains a peaceful atmosphere, allowing for undisturbed enjoyment of the natural surroundings and the beautiful coastline. You'll also find better value on accommodation during these times.
If you're interested in hiking or exploring the local flora, April and May are particularly good, as the landscape is green and wildflowers are in bloom.
