"Hotel had only 25 to 30 guests out of a capacity of 200 plus. Potentially a lovely place- near good walks and beach, nice grounds and rooms and good gym. But..... The spa which they are still advertising is unusuable €26 to play tennis !! The only vegetarian option at dinner, mushroom ravioli, contained meat ! No vegetarian option at all on 2nd night so we had to eat pasta and tomato sauce Laura was the only saviour as she put on a yoga class and tried to enthuse the small number of guests....

"The hotel was nice, modern and the pool, restaurants and bars are pretty good. Entertainment staff worked hard, as do the housekeeping staff, good variety of food and drinks. There seems to be a lack of toilets though... for either of the pools, Breeze bar or Pala Santo restaurant, you need to go into the hotel itself and there is one set of toilets for the entire downstairs area, day and night."

"A lovely stay. Bungalow 1063 is really nice. I marked it down a little as the terrace door wouldn't lock and the main light in the living area flickered a lot. I did report these faults. I was told someone would be round to fix them within 20 mins. After an hour I rang reception to chase this up and then 5 mins later someone came to fix the issues. Beautiful sunrises from the terrace! Very spacious bungalow. I slept very well. Staff at reception were okay. I don't feel they went out their way to...

I don't feel they went out their way to welcome me. I had to ask for directions to the pool, ask about payments at bars etc (I was self catering). Nothing was really forthcoming coming. The map to find my bungalow was very clear. Maintenance work was going on by the pool when I was there so opted to sunbathe at the beach instead. Access to the beach is great. Sangria at the pool bar is ok, no food snacks offered which was disappointing. La Perlita on the beach is fabulous."

Eurostars Las Salinas

8/10 Good

"So the facilities (breakfast, pool, access to beach etc) are all really good. Staff were excellent, as was the evening entertainment. The place does look good on the surface, but then you see it needs some TLC: pool ladders need fixing, elevators got stuck, sink plug lets water through, towel hooks spin around, finishing in disrepair etc. But on the whole it’s okay, and the location is very good w.r.t. local shops, bars restaurants etc. And for an extra €30/€50 they can extend check-out to 3.00 or 5.00 PM."

R2 Bahía Playa Design Hotel & Spa Wellness - Adults Only

8/10 Good

"We had a lovely experience at the R2 hotel. There was always space around the pool and it never felt overcrowded, having 2 meant there was a quieter space if you weren't interested in music or activities through the day. I was unwell during my stay and the hotel staff were super helpful in contacting a doctor for me, they couldn't have been more helpful. My only note would be that there isn't much around the hotel, if you're looking to explore on-foot at all - not an issue, but worth knowing if you were looking for something to do outside the hotel."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Vega De Río Palmas?

The best area to stay in Vega De Río Palmas is within the village centre itself, offering immediate access to its main attractions and a peaceful environment.

The village centre is quite compact, characterised by its traditional Canarian architecture and narrow, winding streets. The main landmark is the Ermita de Nuestra Señora de la Peña, a charming white chapel that is central to the village's identity. The area is very walkable, making it easy to explore the local craft shops and a few small eateries.

Couples looking for a tranquil escape will find the village centre ideal. It's a great base for enjoying quiet evenings, perhaps with a local meal, and for exploring the surrounding natural beauty, like the nearby Barranco de las Peñitas. The focus here is on relaxation and experiencing authentic rural island life.

For solo travellers seeking a peaceful retreat and a chance to connect with nature, staying directly in Vega De Río Palmas offers a convenient starting point for hiking and exploring the beautiful landscape.

When is the best time to go to Vega De Río Palmas?

The best time to visit Vega De Río Palmas is generally between March and May, or from September to November, when the weather is pleasantly warm and the island is less crowded.

These shoulder seasons offer comfortable temperatures averaging around 20-25°C, making it ideal for exploring the natural beauty of the area, such as the Barranco de las Peñitas gorge or the historic chapel of Nuestra Señora de la Peña. You'll find fewer visitors compared to the peak summer months, allowing for a more relaxed experience at popular spots.

Couples looking for a peaceful escape will particularly enjoy these times. The quieter trails and less busy attractions provide a ideal setting for romantic walks and enjoying the island's natural landscapes without the hustle and bustle. The mild weather is also excellent for outdoor activities like hiking or cycling.

Families travelling with children will also appreciate the shoulder seasons. The pleasant temperatures are comfortable for little ones, and the reduced crowds mean shorter queues and more space to enjoy the sights.
