"There was evidence of smoking - cigarette ends on the flat roof outside the only functioning window. The chair was broken. The continental breakfast was not served on time and was meagre and very poor. The staff were friendly however and with a bit of thought and better planning it could easily improve."

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay in this beautiful boutique hotel. We booked the room overlooking the Cathedral which was stunning. The room was really large and immaculately designed. The gentleman who checked us in was so friendly and helpful. The walk was no more than 10 minutes to the centre.
We were so impressed with this hotel and Durham we would definitely come back.

I have stayed in a number of hotels in Newcastle and this was the best stay. The room was spacious with a well equipped mini kitchen and we had prepared 2 good evening meals there. The bed was so comfortable and the location made the hotel quiet which is a change to the noise and sirens throughout the night in my other stays! The Manager's get-together on the Wednesday and Thursday evening of my stay was unexpected and a lovely touch - free drinks and cheese and nibbles for an hour. The staff...

We stayed at the Metropolitan whilst attending a Rugby World Cup Match at St James's Park. Only 30 min from the City Centre with frequent trains. Staff friendly and efficient. Rooms modern and well equipped.

A very impressive and imposing hotel that's clearly benefited from a multi-million pound revamp in the last year. I was offered a voucher each day for a free pint in return for foregoing daily housekeeping services and I thought this was a nice perk. Breakfasts are of the self-service variety and generally everything was in good supply, although all the croissants had gone occasionally. All in all an excellent base for a stay in Tynemouth, a gem of the North East.

We used the hotel as a base whilst I underwent some tests and procedures at the Royal Victoria infirmary. The staff could not have been more helpful and all in all the quality of our stay was exceptional.
The bedrooms are understated but well-equipped. Our room was spacious and incorporated a substantial ensuite bathroom (possibly made bigger by disability provision). The hotel offers free Wi-Fi this was always up and running.

Room was spacious and bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was okay - the full English I felt was a bit small for what I paid but other hot options looked pretty good - would consider that next time and the continental breakfast was good. Staff were lovely.

When is the best time to go to Tynemouth?
The best time to go to Tynemouth is during the warmer months, typically from May to September, when the weather is most pleasant for enjoying the coast and outdoor activities.
During these months, you'll find the most sunshine and milder temperatures, making it ideal for spending time on the beaches like Longsands and Cullercoats Bay. The sea temperatures are also at their warmest, which is great if you fancy trying watersports such as surfing or paddleboarding. Many of Tynemouth's outdoor attractions, like Tynemouth Priory and Castle, are best explored when the weather is fine.
Families often find July and August particularly good for a visit. The school holidays mean there are often more family-friendly events and activities taking place, and the longer daylight hours allow for extended fun on the sand and exploring the town's shops and cafes.
For couples looking for a romantic escape, late spring (May and June) or early autumn (September) can be wonderful. The crowds are typically smaller than in peak summer, yet the weather is still lovely for coastal walks and enjoying meals at the many excellent restaurants along Front Street without needing a reservation quite as much.
