Grenada – The largest and most populous island in the nation of Grenada, Grenada is the hub of cultural and commercial activity in the country. Hike through the rainforest, swim in waterfalls, relax on picture post beaches or explore the many charming towns that dot the island.
Carriacou – Carriacou is the second largest of Grenada’s islands. Thanks to the reefs that surround Carriacou, it’s a fantastic destination for diving. The island is also home to a selection of spectacular beaches and choice of stunning protected areas making it ideal if you want to discover Grenada’s breathtaking natural scenery.
St George’s – The largest city in Grenada and the country’s capital, St George’s boasts colourful streets, a choice of interesting museums and a welcoming atmosphere. If you’re in the city in early August, be sure to take in the famous carnival.
Gouyave – Home to some of Grenada’s best eateries, the town of Gouyave is a great destination for an evening out. Visit the town at the end of the week to enjoy ‘Fish Friday’, a weekly celebration that offers a variety of freshly cooked fish dishes and a great choice of entertainment.
There are more than enough sights in Grenada to keep even the most energetic holidaymaker happy. As Grenada is famous for its spices and its rum, no visit would be complete without a trip to either the Gouyave Nutmeg Factory or the River Antoine Rum Distillery, the oldest distillery in the western hemisphere. To see more of the island’s natural landscape, travel inland to one of Grenada’s many spectacular waterfalls. With many of them open to swimmers, these falls make the perfect place to cool off on a hot Caribbean day. Other important sights in Grenada include the 18th century Fort Frederick, the Grenada National Museum and Mount St Catherine, the highest point around for miles.
With a wealth of pristine beaches to choose from, you could easily spend your break in Grenada hopping from idyllic bay to idyllic bay. However, if you want to get out and see a little more of the country, there’s plenty to explore. For great diving and snorkelling, head to the nearby island of Carriacou. For the chance to get close to nature and see a different side of Grenada, head to the Grand Etang National Park and Forest Reserve, or find out more about colonial life on the island with a visit to the beautiful Belmont Estate, a 17th century plantation that offers a unique glimpse into Grenada’s past.
