A basic place to sleep for the night
Consistent with many other reviews I read before booking at The Victorian Inn, I found the Inn to be in a great location in downtown Telluride - very easy to find. The check-in process was smooth, with a woman and a man at the front desk assisting us.
Also consistent with prior reviews, we were assigned a ground-level room, which had a strange smoke-like odor to it. We notified the front desk and the woman came down with us and denied smelling any smoke. In all fairness, we were unsure whether it was smoke or mustiness, and after opening the window for an hour, the odor dissipated.
Also consistent with other travelers, we needed to get on the road early, and were confused that the office did not open until 7:30am, and there were no instructions regarding check-out when staff were not on premises. We tried calling the "emergency" after-hours number posted, but nobody answered. Several minutes later, the same woman walked to the office door and rudely told us that they do not open until 7:30am. We replied that we could well read the sign posted, and were not looking for an exception to be fed early, but instead needed to know how to do a basic task in the hospitality world - check out before 7:30am - so we could get on the road.
If odor-free, well-ventilated rooms and patient hosts are high values for you, staying here will probably bother you. However, if you can overlook these and just want a place to lay your head in Telluride, I'm sure you'll be fine.
