B&B in St. Andrews

Saint Andrews is a Scottish seaside resort along the east coast of Fife. It might be small, but it packs some serious historical punch. During the Middle Ages it was one of Scotland's most important pilgrimage sites, before becoming home to the country's first university, several centuries later. In more recent years, it's become known as the home of golf and attracts players from all over the world who come to tee off at the Saint Andrews Links. These years of history have left their mark on the city, creating a jumble of heritage buildings, from granite Victorian terraces to stately university buildings and the ruins of its ancient castle. Throw in several golden-sand beaches nearby and coastal trails that wind along the extraordinarily beautiful Fife coastline, and you've got the makings of fine weekend getaway destination.

Rural hideaways, stately homes or ocean-facing B&Bs, Saint Andrews

It doesn't matter whether you're coming for a romantic break or a seaside holiday with the family, the Saint Andrews bed and breakfasts have got you covered. The family-run B&Bs offer all the comforts of home and an intimate ambience that you just can't find in 1 of the larger hotels. Some are housed within the pretty stone-built terraced buildings that dot the streets near the town's centre. Others are more stately affairs, with traditional decor and antique furnishings. If you'd rather stay outside the town, there are several cottages a little further along the coast with just a handful of guestrooms overlooking the sparkling ocean. Whatever floats your Saint Andrews bed and breakfast boat, you'll find it by searching through the extensive listings and photos on Expedia. Search by price and location, then book in just a few clicks. Simple.

If you're new to B&Bs, you can expect all the in-room facilities that you would find in a hotel. When you check in to your guestroom, you can flick on the kettle to make a cup of tea or coffee, stretch out on the comfortable double bed or hit the remote to catch the news or the latest episode of your favourite series on the wall-mounted TV. Most have ensuite bathrooms and you won't have any trouble finding other facilities, like a free parking spot for your car or a garden to relax in. You can always tap into the local knowledge of the owners to find out what's going on in Saint Andrews and discover the town like an insider. Every morning, you can wake to views over the beach and ocean before heading downstairs for a proper Scottish home-cooked breakfast of eggs and bacon, and creamy porridge, made the right way. After your seaside retreat, you could always explore the old streets and cosy pubs of the capital, Edinburgh.

Spend lazy days on the beach or scramble around clifftop ruins of a medieval cathedral near your B&B, Saint Andrews

If you've caught the good weather, you could make a dash for the beach where you can soak up the rays and brave a dip in the sea. If you're keen to learn a new water sport, there are plenty of schools in town, offering lessons in kite surfing and sailing. There's no shortage of historical attractions near your bed and breakfast in Saint Andrews. You could clamber up to marvel at the ruins of the cathedral, once the largest in Scotland, or discover the fascinating history of St. Salvator's Chapel. If you've brought your clubs, you won't want to miss teeing off along the fairway and the iconic Saint Andrews Links, a course that challenges even the most experienced of golfers. In the evening, try to score some tickets for the Byre Theatre, a 1930s entertainment venue with a year-round calendar of dance, musicals and concerts.

  • Stay in affordable luxury close to the town's attractions and golf course
  • Use the B&B's storage to safely keep your golf clubs
