Lovely building and grounds

Posted 02-May-2016
Location: A lovely area with several country parks, and only about 10 minutes drive from Pinewood Studios.
A beautiful manor house in lovely grounds, but some rooms separate in grounds, ie garden rooms and cottage rooms. We had a garden room for 1 night which was very small and basic, with no fridge (so had to order fresh milk when required) and little storage for clothes etc. The walk-in shower overflowed into the small bathroom, and the neighbours could be heard next door. The bed was extremely comfortable and the receptionist was friendly and helpful. We didn't eat in the hotel, but noticed there was a high service charge of 12% for food and drinks, which we thought was too much. The grounds are well kept and lovely, so the setting is very nice, and would be ideal for a wedding!

Bad experience

Posted 26-Mar-2016 on Hotels
Room had stains all over the carpet and now power to sockets or tv. Was moved to a room with a very noisy air con unit which staff member seemed shocked when I asked to be moved again. After the 3rd room I was given a room with bath and shower attachment in a bathroom which nobody can stand up in if your over 6ft tall.

We needed to be in that particular location. Disappointing that the restaurant was not open on a Monday, but we were able to walk to a nearby pub/restaurant which was excellent. We did go into the bar in the hotel, but it totally lacked any atmosphere so we did not stay! The room was fairly small (and no space allocated to put down even a small suitcase) and only one chair. We got the room at a good price so no problem.

Grand from the outside, but lacking in service

Very disapointed with Stoke Place. The hotel has wonderful grounds and looks from the outside very up market, but it lets itself down by lack of attention to detail. We stayed in a cottage near the entrance driveway. The room was a good size, warm and welcoming. The room was let down by a uncomfortable bed, dirty mini bar (milk dried onto the beer bottles, no bottle opener and to top it off, no hot water in the morning to shower! All this was brought to the attention of the hotel recepition and we were told the hotel manager would contact us, but has not! These are basic things you should expect from this type of hotel. We don't feel that we could recomend this hotel because of our experience on this visit. Customer service is bad

Pleasant hotel

Lovely hotel and friendly staff. I had a garden room which looked like they used to be th old stables. Set out like an American motel which I loved. Lovely decor, great shower. Had a comfortable nights sleep. Downside was cold room. I used the control to turn temp up to 30 but nothing, radiator was on in bathroom but couldn't feel it in bedroom. Also I booked room only for £75, on arrival they told me it was £140. Until I showed them my booking email. I asked to add breakfast which was £15. In the morning I decided to cancel breakfast, but when checking out was told my bill was £95 for B&B. Even my maths isn't that bad. Only ended up paying the original £75. Just be careful to check your bill carefully. One mistake can be overlooked but not 2.
